I’m not buying Newt either, because in despite of some conservative accomplishments as Speaker, since then, he has shown himself to be very much a RINO.

Newt Gingrich’s personal baggage doesn’t concern me in the least, that’s between himself and God, HOWEVER, his political views and policy endorsements do concern me. His many flip-flops and claims of being a Conservative, SHOULD be scrutinized and questioned just as much as Mitt Romney’s many flip-flops and claims of being a Conservative.

The Record of Newt Gingrich

1979 Elected to Congress from Georgia’s 6th District
1979 Voted to create the Department of Education, under President Jimmy Carter
1990 Becomes member of Council on Foreign Relations (CFR)
1993 Voted for NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement
1994 Supported the WTO, the World Trade Organization. Voted for GATT, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade that subjected Americans to the international authority of the WTO
1995 Becomes Speaker of the House of Representatives and recommends reading The Third Wave by Alvin Toffler as required reading for all of his Congressional colleagues. (See accompanying article.)
1995 Delivers speech to the Center for Strategic and International Affairs in which he blames the US Constitution for making America’s role in leading the world more difficult! Read his full quote in accompanying article, “The American challenge in leading the world is compounded by our Constitution…”.
1995 Wrote the foreword to another one of Toffler’s books, The Politics of the Third Wave, Creating a New Civilization
1995 The liberal establishment Time Magazine names Newt Gingrich their “Man of the Year”
1995 Appeals to the US House of Representatives to increase the power of the Presidency by repealing the War Powers Act of 1972, and urged President Clinton to expand the US military presence in Bosnia.
1996 Under his leadership, Congress passed the largest single spending increase on education in US history, a whopping $3.5 billion dollars!
1999 Newt resigns over failed midterm elections in which Republicans lost 5 seats, the worst loss in history for a Party who did not control the White House. At the same time, he was also involved in a flap over an extra marital affair and a controversial book deal.
2008 Records the ‘We Can Solve It’ global warming TV commercial for Al Gore along with Nancy Pelosi
2009-2010 Travels around the country with Al Sharpton and Arne Duncan to promote President Obama’s new educational policies: i.e. increased local control of schools with increased Federal subsidies and regulations from Washington. (Sounds like quite a contradiction to me.)
2010 Supported ultra-liberal, pro-abortion, pro-union, establishment candidate Dede Scozzafava in New York’s 23rd Congressional District in a special election, over conservative candidate Doug Hoffman.

Newt Gingrich Statements

“I’m against Obamacare, which is imposing radical change. And I would be against a conservative imposing radical change.” ~Newt

“We do agree, our country must take action to address climate change” ~Newt on the couch of Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection.

“Well, let’s see, first of all, I was really attracted to working with Reverend Sharpton because he took the position that education is the number one civil right of the 21st century. Without education, you can’t have a decent job, you can’t be an effective citizen. You really are crippled in your ability to be an American. “ Newt, on the couch with obamao and sharpton

“We are not going to deport 11 million people,” Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. “There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty.”

GINGRICH: Exercise a no-fly zone this evening, communicate to the Libyan military that Gadhafi was gone and that the sooner they switch sides, the more likely they were to survive, provided help to the rebels to replace him. ...The United States doesn’t need anybody’s permission. We don’t need to have NATO, who frankly, won’t bring much to the fight. We don’t need to have the United Nations. All we have to say is that we think that slaughtering your own citizens is unacceptable and that we’re intervening. And we don’t have to send troops. All we have to do is suppress his air force, which we could do in minutes.

On September 25, 2008 Congressman Gingrich appeared on Hannity and Colmes and called the proposed TARP legislation socialism and stated that it should be defeated in it’s form.

On September 28, 2008 Congressman Gingrich appeared on ABC’s This Week and stated that the question was not whether something needed to be done, but whether it needed to be TARP and whether it needed to be done in the
next 48 hours. He then states that he would probably reluctantly vote for the legislation.

Well, just *rent* him, then. :-)

Jim, do you think Newt's VP pick will be a true indication, or political gamesmanship / pandering?

Cheers!
