Ron Paul: 9/11 prompted "glee" in Bush administration
CBS News ^ | 12/09/2011 | Brian Montopoli

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said Thursday evening that Bush administration officials were gleeful after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks because it gave them a pretext to invade Iraq.

"Just think of what happened after 9/11. Immediately before there was any assessment there was glee in the administration because now we can invade Iraq," the Texas Republican told a group of mostly young backers in Iowa. He went on to suggest officials are now setting the stage for an invasion of Iran.

Paul, who was tied for second in this week's CBS News/New York Times poll of likely Iowa caucus-goers, is making a strong push in the Hawkeye state in hopes of scoring an upset victory in the first-in-the-nation January 3 caucuses. Paul volunteers have been working to convince Paul's mostly young supporters - many of whom will be on holiday break from college when the caucuses take place - to be sure to make it to their caucus site.

Paul's libertarian views - on the foreign policy front, he wants to dramatically reduce the U.S. military presence abroad and end all foreign aid - put him at odds with many Republican voters. A poll from Gallup this week found that 62 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters see Paul as an unacceptable nominee.

It pisses me off that RoPaul is (currently) posing as a Republican.

Agreed. He is using the Republican label because no one would pay attention to him if he ran as a Libertarian. He is not a conservative, and I'm really hoping he leaves the GOP sooner rather than later.

“He is just another old career politician who has a pet issue he likes to talk about but dares not actually fix the issue lest he doesn’t have it to talk about or raise money on any more.”

Outstanding observation!

Ron Paul: Bush administration felt ‘glee’ after 9/11 These scumbags agree. -—>From DU ChoppinBroccoli (1000+ posts)

POST 25. Why Do You Think Bush Allowed It To Happen?
Of course they were gleeful. Just that shot of Bush pumping his fist minutes before going on TV to tell the American public what was going on should have made that clear.

I will go to my grave knowing one thing: if Al Gore had been President, 9/11 would never have happened.

POST 31. And that is why Gore was never allowed
to take the office of President that he fairly won in the election.

Remember, Gore even proposed strengthening airline cockpit doors well before 9/11. I remember hearing Limbaugh poo pooing the idea because it would have cost $300 per air liner door. Of course Limbaugh was against anything proposed by Democrats. ____________________________________________________________Dear DU’ers, lurking on FR, since I cannot post on your site, enjoy these facts.

Al Gore was appointed to head some commission to look into airline security. The airline industry ended up making a major contribution to the Clinton/Gore reelection campaign of that year.

Allegedly, one of the discussed improvements was reinforcing/securing airplane cockpit doors...nothing ever became of that, because.....

The day after Gore’s letter to the Air Transport Association, Trans World Airlines donated $40,000 to the Democratic National Committee. By the time of the presidential election, other airlines had poured large donations into Democrat Party committees: $265,000 from American Airlines, $120,000 from Delta Air Lines, $115,000 from United Air Lines, $87,000 from Northwest Airlines, according to an analysis done for the Boston Globe by the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks donations. A total of $627,000 was donated to the Democrats by major airlines.

With all of the hearings with respect to the 9/11 terrorist attacks the one single greatest factor which could have prevented the WTC and Pentagon from being hit would have been secure bullet proof cockpit doors on our commercial aircraft. And, fitting a bulkhead that permanently blocks access to the cockpit from the cabin.

If our aircraft had secure cockpit doors and a bulkhead to block access the planes could not have been used to hit targets. Period. Case closed.

So, the single greatest question should be- why were we penny wise and pound foolish with respect to our commercial aircraft for so many years after we understood that terrorists might hijack American Aircraft?

Following the downing of TWA Flight 800 in 1996, Gore was entrusted by President Clinton to investigate airline safety. He was named chairman of the White House Commission on Aviation Safety.

The Gore commission produced what most observers considered to be a tough preliminary report unveiled Sept. 9 of that year one that included tough counter-terrorism procedures.

Following the election, in January, Gore floated a draft final report that eliminated all security measures from the commission’s findings, according to the insider. Two commission members balked, as did CIA Director John Deutch.

Fearing more political heat, Gore pulled back the draft report. A month later, the final report was issued, one that included requirements that would cost the airlines some money, but save some lives in the future

Only one thing was lacking from the report’s requirements, said the whistleblower - there was no deadline by which those requirements would have to be met. It was open-ended. In other words, it wasn’t worth the paper on which it was written.

They have to coordinate their message first. See post #54. They’ll get their cute little video ‘proving’ Paul right(sic) and post it as their evidence. That, or they’ll just call everyone here warmongers and chickenhawks

I know this is not going to be popular, but I knew at least one guy, a Jewish-American, who was somewhat gleeful on 9/11, because he thought it would bring Americans closer to Israel.

Not really. It’s much like what Billy Goat Clinton said as Air Force 1 was flying to the Oklahoma City terror. He was positively ecstatic as he had an opportunity to show his leadership at a time of perceived crisis.

Ron Paul is not the best candidate for president, but neither are the other two RINOs. Paul did promise to eliminate the FED, EPA and DOE, among other monolithic entities of the central socialist government. Further, he promised to slash well over 1 trillion from the bloated budget in his first year.

If he could accomplish that I would be pleased. The other rough edges he displays would smooth out.

Paul did promise to eliminate the FED, EPA and DOE..

Well, where are his bills then? This legislation would start in Congress, where he is at now. Last time I checked, he has been completely ineffectual there, but he claims he can do more as President who doesn't have legislative authority? Oh, and the Fed, the thing he talks about so much.. how is he doing as Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee? Oh yea, jack and squat. No investigation, no subpoenas, no independent investigator, no witnesses. All things he has the seat and legal authority to do now...

Just another old career politician who talks, talks, talks, but actually doesn't want his pet issues to go away lest he can no longer raise money off them.

Blaming America for 9/11 and accusing the Bush administration of 'glee' is not a 'rough edge.'

It's a mortal blow to sanity, decency and truth, and it can't ever 'smooth out.'

Ron Paul may be nuts, but his followrs are uber nuts. They really remind me of more of a cult, like Scientologists or Moonies, than just everyday folks.

Like the unionistas who bus people all over to “express” themselves, ditto for the Paulites. At CPAC, straw polls, even when Hermann Cain was in the middle of his speech announcing he was suspending his campaign..There on the front row, Some guy with a ginormous Ron Paul sign, blocking the view of everyone who was standing behind him.

No, the other “rough edges” DO NOT “smooth out”.

Sharing the same views as the Authoritarian Left is NEVER acceptable.

Paul would be a great choice at the top of the ticket. I hear he wants Admiral Stockdale as his running mate.

Oh, great, then we could hear the infamous "Who am I? Why am I here?" at BOTH the Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates next autumn.
