Ankara Won't Allow Syria To Threaten Security

ANKARA - Turkey cannot stand by and watch if Syria's crackdown on a popular uprising puts security in the region at risk, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Friday.

While Ankara has no desire to interfere in Syria's internal affairs, it has a duty to tell Damascus "Enough!" if it puts Turkey's security at risk by fighting its own people and forcing people to flee the country, he said.

Turkey, which has the second-largest army in NATO, said last month it did not want any military intervention in Syria but that it was ready for "any scenario" including setting up a buffer zone inside Syria.

Well, there are already refugees coming into Turkey and tensions near the border. From another Reuters story:

Syrian troops guarding the border [with Turkey] are opening fire at "anything that moves", residents and refugees said, apparently fearing armed infiltrators will cross into Syria to join the fight against President Bashar al-Assad.

We'll just have to wait and see if Turkey is serious. Naturally, this would be an operation led by a NATO "ally" and Obama will join in, but lead from behind.

Get yours ready.......

Assad and Russia could let it be known that if Turkish troops cross into Syria that there could be consequences elsewhere in Turkey.

The article said that Turkey and Syria had close relations but there are now problems.. the following is what I remember from the past: "Relations between Turkey and Syria came to the brink of war in 1998 when Ankara threatened military action if Damascus continued to shelter PKK terrorists, prompting the Syrian regime to expel Abdullah Ocalan, head of the terrorist organization."

The PKK terrorists are condemned by our own government and by the governments of European nations. They are Marxist revolutionary terrorists.

Recently Turkey and Syria had developed friendly relations I believe it is accurate to say. But the problems in Syria has changed things.

A news item a day or two ago stated that Turkey was turning away from Syria and adding to Her dealings with Iraq owing to the actions of the rulers of Syria and the fact that Syria was once again aiding the PKK.

So IMO that portends a face-off between Shi'ite and Sunni Moslems, Iran and Turkey respectively, as Iran's influence in Iraq grows.

Though Turkey and Iran are cooperating on matters economic and in combating the various versions of the Marxist PKK Kurdish Workers' Party terrorists there is always that basic division between them.

This could get really bad, really fast. Someone needs to step in but Obama will not—maybe the French need to get involved or even the Russians.

I know who they are. Every time people whine about shelling or strikes by Turkey into Northern Iraq, I tell them the same thing.....PKK are Marxists terrorists.
