Gingrich admits Romney would be on his short list for VP

Newt Gingrich tells CNN's Wolf Blitzer he would consider Mitt Romney to be a potential running mate (VIDEO). The interview is very much in keeping with Gingrich’s “keep it classy” campaign theme so far — and he treaded lightly, sounding neither overly enthusiastic about a VP Romney nor overly displeased with the idea.

But why did he take the bait at all? He could just as easily have remained indifferent, have answered with a simple, “I’d have to give it thought.” He won’t win over Romney supporters — and he significantly owes his own surge to the appetite for an anti-Romney. To praise Romney as “competent” and “serious” might be true as far as it goes — but it also reminds voters that, in some ways, Romney and Gingrich are very much alike. They’re both ambitious, intelligent and susceptible to switching positions.

Do you have an inkling of who Newt might really want?

Not a clue. Doubt Newt could really answer the question either at this point. Too premature.

The basic question is: What would the prospective choice bring to the ticket?

In Cain's case there wouldn't be much if anything positive. For one he's from the same state. For another, Cain now has his own baggage. Baggage that would do nothing but highlight Newt's.

I can understand that belief. It gives the media a melt-down and now Gingrich gets 3 debates with Nobama and Cain gets to debate dipshit.

I don’t think we’ve defined natural born well enough to determine if Rubio is eligible. He’s anybody’s best pick.
I’d have him for President, skip the VP.

Of course, if zero’s people force the natural born issue with Rubio, then the SCOTUS *has* to take it up vis-a-vis Obama.

That’s a fight worth undertaking, USUALLY, except we many more pressing issues right now.

Have you even read about the book?

It’s about how businesses are successfully handling pollution and environmental issues better than government, and argues that the private sector is better able to take care of the environment as they see fit.

I doubt Debbie Schlussel took any more time investigating this that she did any of the anti-Plain blather she spewed a few years ago.

I actually think Newt will pick Rick Santorum. Santorum could step in as president immediately if needed.... very knowledgable. He would definitely help Newt win PA. ....and, he is more conservative than Newt, which should ease many concerns from the hardcore right wing types.

There is NO WAY he picks Mitt Romney. That was a strategic answer to possibly get some dejected Romney people to accept Newt as the nominee in hopes Mitt will be his VP.

I think we all really like Marco Rubio, but it will exacerbate this entire immigration matter. whether it be Gingrich or Perry.

I tend to think a Perry/Rubio ticket could be great on the general election stage.

But not in the primary’s.

Rubio is a very fluid speaker, and I think that offsets Perry’s stammering.
At the core of things I think they both have an even handed approach to the problem of illegal immigration.
Neither are for it but they understand the problems associated with it.

Just yesterday Obama declared that we will import Homosexuals that feel that they are oppressed.
Yup, they go to the front of the line under the guise of sanctuary.

I would rather have the catholic fellow that cuts grass and works hard.
Preferably I would have the immigrant that adds to our society as a doctor or a physicist.

Obama says as of yesterday, that the criteria to get into this country is being queer and oppressed.

What I am saying is that Obama NEEDS TO GO!
All of our candidates are better than this SOB.

Rubio has less experience than Obama. I like him a lot, but lets get real here.

>>I can’t believe all the dumb a$$ posts in this thread. One more time. CNN is trying to start a war between Mitt and Newt. Newt did not take the bait and instead praised Mitt which completely goofed up what CNN was trying to do. He is not going to have Mitt as VP. Pure and simple. People please show some intelligence.

Well done. Thank you.

This was posted yesterday.

He gave the perfect answer.

“Kill Romeny with kindness”.

He likely would have said the same about all of his rvials, save for Ron Paul!!!

Obama had no experience either.

Though I understand your trepidation.
AT least Rubio doesn’t rely on a teleprompter.

Well, since we’re asking, Why would mittens who spent 130 million in ‘08 to lose the presidency spend at least as much this go-around to be VP?:-)

Damn...are sure about that figure? Wow. So much for 'once bitten...'

I think Rubio believes every word he says.

I could be wrong.

But I am certain of who Obama is.

That is what we always do.

We kill them with kindness and get blamed for being brutal.

Is Newt physically incapable of saying, "I'll get back to you on that"?

Gingrich was simply being tactically gracious.... and he didn’t bite the bait.

Smart primary politics. If he became the nominee, I think Newt might be wise to pick a former or retiring governor but Romney isn’t who I have in mind.

You don’t understand the laws of Newtonian Gingrich physics.

They change.
They aren’t solid.

We proved Nov 2011 and then again in special elections since then that we aren’t the stupid party once we de-couple from the establishment. There is no reason to think we’ve atrophied or entropied since then.

There is no reason to think there won’t be another red tsunami next November.
