There are other “debates” still scheduled.

Lord! There are tons of them.

This is a Donald “look at me” event.

It is not serious — it is a side-show.

If Newt had declined it would be considered a brilliant decision.

Newt has no organization in Iowa, he thinks he can win the nomination through debates not through retail politics. He has spent spit in Iowa and Iowans do not think kindly of that. Newt's only outlet are the debates, you'll not see Newtie pass up any debate. [Newties professor type lecturing in those debates is growing very old.]

True, but Newt could have afforded to skip it. Perry has a lot of ground to make up in 3 weeks.

Why would Newt decline? Not only have they been free TV time but he obviously does extremely when compared side by side with the other candidates also this debate could go to a group that would not normally see the Republican debates.
