Texas topper declines invitation to real-estate-mogul-hosted Dec. 27 NewsMax debate.

I’m happy with that decision. I think some people think this was a Trump Vanity Debate. I don’t know. Could be. I’m reading a few positive things here and there. Perry scores very high positives with voters who had served in the miltary. He scores very high positives among Christian voters.
He’s working hard to get back the respect of his base. It was always there, he just lost the position when Cain was making so much noise. I’ve got to tell you, if people are flocking to Gingrich (and Palin is close to endorsing him) we’ve been played by the Tea Party and Independents. Gingrich? Do we have anyone else in moth balls?
That Trump is a guy with a firm philosophy... just have to think of "firm" in a different way...
Exactly....Newt said this election was not going to be the traditional...and it's not going to be...so people better get use to it....do any think Obama is going to go the traditional way? hahahahaha...he never has and never will. I am happy to see the changes and conservatives need to lighten up on their stoic ways......things have already changed and our guys have finally gotten it they need to get in step with the hear and now of what elections need to be....and get out of their comfort zones...if they don't Obama and his machine will roll over every single candidate out ther we've got in play. We have no choice but to go other venues for visibility .....what do people expect? Do they really think it's possible to get our candidates heard the traditional ways????
That was then...this is now...and after yet another release of the latest e-mails debunking the bogus science... which changed the minds of many.
Newt wants a serious discussion about it...both sides and the science at the table to determine what is or not happening with the climate and put the dang thing to rest. I agree...settle the matter and do so in the face of the public.
No kidding. It was just "good business" when Trump contributed $5,000 to Rahm Emanuel's Chicago mayoral bid.
Heavy man.
That is the PERFECT campaign slogan for Newt.
You need to email them and get on board as an adviser.
With the "media" types, GOPers know what they're getting, and they're not kissing, for example, Wolf Blitzer's azz in hopes of winning an endorsement. Trump lays out the pretenses about conservatism, but his past belies that mask, for those who choose to do the necessary research.
And if he runs... Are you OK with Obama making the SCOTUS pick in the next four years to replace the aging Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas? Handing Obama a 2012 victory -- a certain outcome of a Trump third-party run -- greatly increases that horrifying possibility.

Hello??
Exactly. Trump is out for Trump.
Perry was on Fox news this morning. He didn’t definitely rule out the debate but was learning toward skipping it.
Right move, I think.
Anyway, who will watch this debate?
Whatever the motivation of Trump, it’s Perry who needs to gain traction in the week before the IA Caucuses. He should seize every opportunity made available to him.
He did not slink away. He decided not to do it for good reasons.
Who is Donald Trump to summon the candidates to answer to him?
I wouldn’t do it if I were any of them.
Ciao caww,
You bring up a good point: ...playing politics with who is worthy of their presence...
I think you nailed it. Trump is one man, a single vote... the potential audience for a debate sponsored by him is pretty big... and it’s full of American men and women, voters all, (so it stands to reason or else they’d be watching MTV).
So what if you despise Trump? Do you also despise the voters?
Non capisco!!!!
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas has joined other candidates, including Mitt Romney, in passing on Donald Trumps Dec. 27 debate in Iowa. His campaign issued this statement on Thursday:
Governor Perry has talked to Donald Trump in recent days and respects him and the folks at NewsMax very much. There are two debates in the next seven days.
Traditional retail campaigning in the days and weeks leading up to the Iowa caucus is the Perry campaigns top priority. In the coming weeks, Governor Perry will be in Iowa almost continually, meeting with real voters, doing town hall meetings and events and talking American jobs, faith and overhauling Washington, D.C., to Iowa voters.
So we have respectfully declined the invitation for the Dec. 27 debate.
Mr. Trumps involvement has been criticized by some Republican leaders because he has held out the possibility that he might still run for president.....”

Trumps not going to run third party....that’s just another distraction that shakes people up....the paranoia’s out there is exactly what the dems want....freeze the conservatives, make them hate each other and their candidates.....it’s palatable. The problem with our side is we can’t tell when our guys moves are a game strategy and are too quick to shiver and shake...what a fickle nation we are!
Perry knows that he always looks bad in live situations, so no surprise.
He may be making a big mistake though; Trump is looking for his magic candidate, since the golden girl slipped the noose. He obviously doesn’t want Noot or Mutt, or there would be no need for the show.
I agree with you and I, too, am amazed at the Trump fans.
Okay, he’s flamboyant and kinda interesting (not to me). He’s made a lot of money but reminds me of some kind of reality star like the Kardasians.
He’s conservative in his way, but it’s all about Trump and don’t anyone forget it.
I don’t think Perry declined because he was afraid of the forum but because his time would be better spent elsewhere.
And, yes, The Donald will ask some out of the loop questions just to stir things up and get publicity.
“....”For the same reasons that a serious candidate would sit down at multiple debates with moderators who are their absolute political enemies!!”.....
Excellant response Batman!
Perry said some time ago he didn’t want to do debates and recognizes he’s not quick on his feet in such an atmosphere. It’s probably a good move for him...imagine having to deal with Newt and Trump! He’d likely flub it pretty bad since it is a weakness in him. He’s not about ready to be rolled I don’t think.”
Thanks caww! Actually my response was really aimed at all of these candidates, not necessarily just Perry, who continue to attend these debates that are broadcast and moderated by the SRM. It makes no sense to me that any of them would agree to participate in debates that are moderated by people who want to damage them. They should all tell the SRM that they will attend their debates only after Rush and Mark Levin moderate the next Democratic debate.
