I thought I read elsewhere that he was 71?

I was ‘in’ with the Out Crowd. I’m no better than anyone else.

Didn't that alternate version go like this? - - - "Gimme the Beach Boys, and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll, and SURF TODAY".
Drift Away was and is a classic.

In early 1965, our local AM rock blasters KRLA and KFWB began playing Dobie Gray's
The "In" Crowd, and it became a local hit. However, KRLA was soon playing a different version, one which praised KRLA in its lyrics. I haven't heard that version since 1965.
