I remember listening to Drift Away as a very young child on the record player or maybe reel-to-reel on dad’s old Kanazawa stereo.

Sad day.

I want you to know I believe in your song.
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony.
You help me along, keeping me strong."

Loved that song, “Oh, give me the Beach Boys and free my soul.” No disrespect intended, RIP Dobie.

He got the name Dobie from Sonny Bono.

I always thought he was singing "Gimme the Beach Boys", and the song was a tribute to that great surfing band.
Nevertheless, Rest In Peace.
(try it sometime "Gimme the Beach Boys, and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll, and drift away...." it really works! ;)

Excellent song and a quiet, soulful man. The kind we could use more of.
Thanks for the time you spent with us.
