Yes, teachers do get fired. In some cases their contracts are not renewed. Here's just a short list.

Lawrence teacher says he was fired because of his politics
Teacher fired because of anti-Jew statements at Occupy Wall Street
Christian Teacher Gets Fired Because of Her Christianity
Teacher fired because her blog cited bad student behavior
Fired breastfeeding teacher fights back
Teacher fired for premarital sex
These are just a few incidents. So yes, they do. And from different states.
