Glenn Beck characterized Newt Gingrich as a big government "progressive" in the Teddy Roosevelt mold during a radio interview. Beck criticized Gingrich for his support for government initiatives to expand healthcare and curb global warming.
It was a label that Gingrich embraced, saying that in the area of healthcare, "I'm a Theodore Roosevelt Republican and I believe government can lean in the regulatory leaning is okay," according to the transcript of the Glenn Beck radio show.

Beck is out of date on this issue.
I’m not Newt fan, but Glenn Beck will look pretty foolish if he endorses Romney after this condemnation of Newt.
Perhaps, but Newt is a superior option to Mitt.
*Gingrich explained to Beck that Big Government programs like Medicare and Social Security were a fact of life, but that they could be changed to open them up to promote individual liberty. The introduction of market mechanisms into both programs would improve an individual’s freedom of choice.*
Any questions?
Out of date? The interview was yesterday. Why, has Newt swithed positions again?
No he’s not. Newts don’t change their spots.
Glen is looking towards Bachmann
Not Mormon?
My guess is his magic underwear are twisted up over Mutt Romney tanking in the polls.
I’m not a fan of Newt but I prefer him over Mitt BIGTIME.
On election day, I will crawl over broken glass thru nuclear fallout in order to vote for him.
Personally, I firmly believe the main battle preparing to be waged( and one that REALLY scares the left along with the media) is really being ignored:
The GOP with a HUGE opportunity to retake the senate with a big majority.
Hey, I'm through voting for the lesser of two evils. This election cycle I'm writing in Milton Friedman.
I live for the day when he becomes Moot Romney.
If I recall correctly, back in the '90s Newt got positively whacked for saying (out of context) that conservatives would let Social Security "wither on the vine." Once bitten, twice shy, I'd say. And honestly, can you imagine any politician, no matter how frankly conservative, seriously campaigning on a promise to end Medicare and Social Security?
Please look it up....another story about Newt that is false....and I am not a Newt fan for President, but I do like his gumption.
Working within Congress has to be the most daunting challenge for any conservative who wants to abolish, reduce or fix Government programs. Not only dealing with the socialist Dems, but having to motivate GOP colleagues to stand up and fight against earmarks and entrenched special interests.
As POTUS, Newt would be the pilot - not a flight attendant. With a great crew and a veto pen - he could truly keep his promises and passengers safe;)
Newt is so full of baggage that the Obamacrats are thrilled that he is ahead in the polls. They got their choice with McCain last time but it will be worse with Newt.
Notice how fast that the Obamacrats shut up Pelosi when she started to dish up dirt on Newt? They want to run against him. When things Newt has said and done are brought up in the campaign, even the strongest republican crowd will be disgusted.
This is getting stupider every time it’s pushed. Apparently to Beck and many other people reading is difficult and so is listening.
But whatever. Fight amongst yourselves and re-elect Obama.

And will Glen support Romney as a “big government “progressive” in the Lyndon Johnson mold”?
Yo, Glen...your shark is waiting and the ski ramp is all set.
