While most Americans are lucky to get a few weeks of holiday every year, it seems the countrys leader gets a little more freedom in the matter.
President Barack Obama has announced his Christmas vacation to Hawaii for a staggering 17-day trip.
Obama, who visited the island just two weeks ago for an economic summit, will head to Honolulu on Saturday December 17 until Monday January 2.
The president, who was raised in Hawaii until he was six, will be joined by his wife Michelle and their daughters, Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10.
The White House travel office announced the president has no public events scheduled for the trip.
The President's family covers the cost of a private beach front residence in Kailua, Oahu, for their vacation - a Winter White House that costs up to $3,500 a day, or $75,000 a month.
But the local and federal taxpayers help pay the bill for travel and security.

“”Is thar Berstadgarden? Hitlers hangouts?””
Had to go to the end to see if anyone else asked the question. I was going to ask if it was Hitler’s place in the Bavarian Alps? Wolf’s Lair or something like that?
grifter...
he hasn’t been, isn’t and will never be my P_esident.
I can’t wait for the day I’m like that old veteran in the joke who keeps going back to the WH to be told that he’s no longer the President.
And we thought he’d just left (APEC in mid November) - dang, back again?! Wish he’d go back to Martha’s Vineyard and disrupt their traffic instead of ours. I feel especially bad for the tour pilots who can’t go anywhere near the “restricted airspace” where the Man who would be King might be staying. The slobbering local media had a grand time oohing and ahhhing over Michelle going to a gardening project on the Rio Linda side of the island.
Yep.
Its called “Eagles Nest”. My sister and I went there in the late 70’s. There is a elevator that has copper walls that takes you from the base area to the top of the mountain where you get that view shown in the picture. Was a fun experience.
Yeah been there, Hitler really didn’t like the place, it was a gift from Gerhing!
Yeah, good old Gerhing....NOT!
According to the Daily Mail, the presidents family covers the cost of a private beach front residence in Kailua, Oahu, for the span of the vacation, reportedly dubbed a Winter White House that costs up to $3,500 a day, or $75,000 a month.
Still, taxpayers help foot the bill for security and travel costs: A similar vacation last year cost more than $1.4 million.

Aloha and good riddance.
Wrecking the country must be exhausting work.

Dang, sorry for the multiple posts! Not sure what happened there. Mods, could you please remove the dups?
“Eagle’s Nest”. Beautiful place. Sinister people.
Christmas vacation???
More like KWANZA vacation.
I do hope he and Michelle can stand to travel on the same plane together this time!
I really don't begrudge the guy a vacation (and, to be fair, the President is never really on vacation) - but this seems to me to be a REALLY bad time to be 6 hours behind D.C. time - too much going on. Eurozone. Middle East.
I guess all his staff will have to hang around until 3 a.m. to see whether they get summoned by the One? What a sport!
I have LOTS of things I can attack Obama for - but the fact that a modern President needs so much security really is not his fault. My grandmother used to tell me about Teddy Roosevelt occassionally stopping to talk to her when he was walking to church (she was a child at the time). Two Secret Service agents accompanied him most of the time. It's unthinkable nowadays that a President could walk over a mile in DC on a regular basis without major security. Not really the fault of the President.
