Romney is wrong on the issues, though. What is disturbing about Romney is that while the conservatives are running circles around him, he does nothing to try to appeal to the conservative base. He apparently doesn’t mind blowing off the conservatives. And that makes me think he will govern from the left, which is the last thing we need.

In the primary phase of any election the candidates will try to appeal to the their base, before reaching out to independents during the general election. It's equally true of both parties. All the remaining GOP contenders are still trying to polish their conservative credentials. And that's where the scary part comes in - this is the conservative version of Romney.

Both have proven records of doing so, and in addition, Newt even goes so far as to sabotage conservatives.
