Comparing and contrasting Newt and Mitt is a real eye-opener. The two men have taken very different paths in their personal and professional lives, and have wildly different personalities. Newt is a dreamer, Mitt a doer. Newt is reckless, Mitt is careful. Newt is famously undisciplined, Mitt is the epitome of self-discipline. Romney is a leader, Newt simply is notaccording to those who worked most closely with him. Both men are intelligent, yet have chosen different ways to use their intelligence.
In education, Romney pursued business and law, while Newt chose modern European History. Romney earned his education quickly and entered the private sector, while Newt preferred academia.
Romney went on to a successful career in business, becoming wealthy helping businesses and creating jobs, while Newt made a career in government, becoming wealthy by exploiting his position of power and selling influence. Romney's skills were in high demand in the private sector, while Newt was removed from leadership in the House due to the chaos he created.
In matters of faith, Romney is a life-long member of his church and has a record of many years of service to it. Newt went from Lutheran to Baptist, to Catholic, with some speculation of political motive in making the conversions. I am not aware of service Newt may have given to his church. In their personal lives, they could not be more different. Mitt married his high school sweetheart after 4 years of courtship, and remains happily married. Newt also married his high school sweetheart - his geometry teacher whom he began dating at age 16. He has admitted that there is some truth in the notion that he hates women. He has a turbulent marital history due to selfishness and uncontrolled sexual appetites. While Romney helped Ann through both MS and cancer, Newt divorced Jackie, who had cancersaying she was not pretty enough or young enough to be a presidents wifeand besides she has cancer. Newt divorced Marrianne, who was also diagnosed with MS. At the time, he asked Marrianne if she would please tolerate the six year affair with Callista, and remain married to him. She refused. He married Callista in 2000.
In matters of character, the contrast is keen. Romney has no hint of scandalpersonal or professional. Newt has rumors of sexual scandalsincluding the infamous oral sex in a car with his neighbor's wife, while his little daughter was near. Newt also has a history of ethics violations, shady book deals, sham fundraising practices, and inconsistencies about whether he was hired as an historian or as a lobbyist.
In the presidential campaign, they have also chosen very different paths. Romney is serious, organized, hardworking and prepared, while Newt has been flying by the seat of his pants. He now finds himself in the running, but unprepared, due to a severe lack of preparation and organization. While Romney has been mostly humble about his long term frontrunner status, Newt proclaimed himself the nominee after less than two weeks at the top of the polls.
There are many other differences--too many to list here. But we easily know enough to determine who is more worthy of support. We should not divorce the way a man lives in his personal life, from his actions in public life. Character is revealed in both professional and personal decisions. Romney has a solid record of being true to his word, family, and stewardships. Newt does not. While both men have significant accomplishments, only one has the background, character, leadership and temperament we need. That person is Mitt Romney.
This very thread has been posted by a mormon non-US citizen in spite of Jim Robinson's often declared ban on Romney support on FR.
Whine, whine, whine....you conveniently ignore the 52,000 mormon missionaries who go out into the world daily and denigrate Christianity with lies about "restoration" and lies about the requirement of mormon membership in order to be "saved".
In the meantime, there are ongoing multi-billion dollar public relations campaigns on radio, TV and the internet pimping the mormon religion and every member is reminded to be a missionary.
AND you FR mormons whine, whine, whine about a handful of Christians pushing back at worldwide mormon prosletyzing by posting factual articles on FR.
Mitt Romney is the epitome of mormonism, and while mormons boast of his fealty to their sect others can see a lying, back-stabbing, holier-than-thou "priesthood holder" mormon exemplified.
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!
I have an idea TPPole, name one inaccuracy, just one that has ever been posted on FR, morons LOVE to make the claim YET never provide and example. It would be wonderful if just once a moromn would back up their bogus claims.
psst Romney is a liberal, I will not support him for that reason.
mromons are not Christians.
As far as the religious bigot part, I am sorry you hate yourself, it just can’t be good for your digestion.

76. Never associate inappropriately with anyone of the opposite sex (conversely, they don’t mention whether or not it is against the rules to associate inappropriately with anyone of the same sex).

78. Do not date.
79. Do not communicate via phone or letter with anyone of the opposite sex living within or near mission boundaries.

90. Do not telephone parents (in some areas, the mission president will make an exception to this rule and will allow 2 phone calls per year: one on Christmas and one on Mother’s day. But the actual rule in the handbook does not give any exceptions. 93. Do not telephone girlfriends.
94. Contact your mission president in case of an emergency.

97. Respect the customs, traditions, and property of the people who you are trying to convert (I have to wonder, isn’t it intrinsically disrespectful to their customs and traditions when your purpose for engaging them is to convert them from their customs and traditions and to yours?)

110. Do not provide community service that isnt approved by your mission president.
111. Do not provide more than 4 hours a week of community service.

119. Do not fast longer than 24 hours at a time.
120. Do not ask friends, relatives, and members to join in special fasts for investigators. (I wonder if this is because prayer and fasting doesn’t cause strangers to convert and consequently proves to be a faith-demoting experience).

148. Drive only Church-owned vehicles.
149. Do not drive members cars.
150. Do not drive nonmembers cars.

Upon reading my comments on bicycle safety rules, a recently returned missionary told me, “I broke everyone of these rules without the least consideration for them. In Tokyo light traffic makes heavy traffic in the US seem pitiful and they usually had no sidewalks and very narrow streets.
“You didn’t stick your arm out to signal that you’re turning left because it would get torn off. I rode in snow and rain, (everyday during the rainy season) and after dark every day. It was the only way to get around on the budget we had. Anyways I don’t want to bore you but I just want to tell you that YOU’RE RIGHT.”
I have no doubt that the church really cares about the safety of missionaries, but I can’t help but wonder if they are truly being earnest with these bike safety rules. My experience has been that missionaries blatantly disregard them. In fact they must be disregarded if you are going to obey the more prominent rule of working from 9:30 A.M. to 9:30 P.M. without exception, every day.

Sorry there are some ads in that list, messed up the posting.
Newt has stated, the Era of Reagan is over. If the Era of Reagan is over, then the era of conservatism is over. You can't separate the two. Sorry, I don't buy it and I'm not buying what Gingrich is selling either. Newt might be worth a last man standing vote. Nothing more.
Romney did not serve even though he was the right age and draft number. Somehow he was able to avoid service because of his thirty month mission trip to France. Still trying to figure out how that works.
How conveeeeeeenient.
Oyyy! That's academic whoor, mate!
The subject which he instructs us isn't important, only that he is seen as authoritative and correct, regardless of the outcome.
He instinctively shys from the true hard-work job of getting rid of illegals here by devising complicated word puzzles and procedures under which he'll eventually capitulate our sovereignty - only he knowing what's best for us, of course.
He could speak rings around Obama - it won't matter one damned bit. The skeletons in the closet (yes, even worse than those some of already know about) are around the corner. The MSM will concoct them (ala Cain) if they don't emerge on their timetable.
Beck will endorse Romney - it is a given, unless Beck is actually different than the 94% of mormons who actively support Romney. I guess it is possible that Beck is part of the 6%.
14 million
Wow! I am impressed, just last week it was 12 million.
(But of course if we removed those that have left lds and those who are not active participants and those who are dead we are left with about 5 million active members of which only 15% are worthy to enter the inner “sacredness” of the temple)
“we can sometimes appear to be bigots to the outside world”
Given that the horndog prophet Joseph Smith founded the cult on the idea that “all churches are false”,
it would appear, indeed, you do appear as bigots to the outside world...
Huh? So pigs in the mud, or whores of Babylon, or satan’s workers or vile disgusting people doesn’t count. Nice to know.

That's my thinking too. I'll vote for Newt in the general with only a tad more enthusiasm than I voted for the McCain ticket. I see Bachmann and Santorum as the most conservative candidates. Palin and Cain were my choices and I'm sick of "settling" for a candidate. That said, all the candidates are head and shoulders better than Obama - except Romney/ Huntsman and possibly Paul.
Why oh why do we always seem to wind up with choices like these? (Rhetorical question)

ThomasMore - You just voted for Obama. (sigh)
Graybeard58 - Do you ever post that bilge to the boss? If not, why not? Why not tell J.R. what a dummy Obama voter he is?
Add me to your list of "Obama voters" because I will never vote for Romney on either half of a Republican ticket.

If you haven’t seen it you need to.
Romney is FAR from a MINO. He is what the LDS call “an active, temple worthy Mormon”. That requires A LOT of effort, work, and a strict adherence to the doctrine teachings and practices to Mormonism. Too much work to just be a MINO.
Been there done that.
And, most of the Romney supporters here on FR ARE LDS. I can think of only ONE LDS on here who doesn’t support Romney and openly states so. There is a long history of identity politics and block voting in Mormonism, moreso than other religious groups.
