Perry — U.S. Air Force Pilot
“In the early 1970s, Perry interned during several summers with the Southwestern Company, as a door-to-door book salesman. “I count my time working for Dortch Oldham [President of the Southwestern Company] as one of the most important formative experiences of my life,” Perry said in 2010. “There is nothing that tests your commitment to a goal like getting a few doors closed in your face.” He said that “Mr. Oldham taught legions of young people to communicate quickly, clearly and with passion, a lesson that has served me well in my life since then.”[18]
Upon graduation, Perry was commissioned in the Air Force, completed pilot training, and flew C-130 tactical airlift in the United States, the Middle East, and Europe until 1977. He left the Air Force with the rank of captain, returned to Texas, and went into business farming cotton with his father.”

And when Perry decided to go into politics, he never lost an election.
Perry is back on my radar screen, he was outstanding tonight. Not sure about the part time congress but on the 10th he did not budge.
Perry does come off as a door-to-door book seller:
- will say what he thinks you want to hear
- will say it over and over until you believe him
- will not stop even after its clear your not buying it
- will freeze and stumble when you catch him in a fib
- will toss his former script if a new script seems more likely to get more sales
