Egyptian election sends shiver through Israel

(Reuters) - Feeling vindicated but vulnerable, Israel is preparing for a more precarious future with neighbor Egypt where Islamist power appears to be a rising tide forecast by Israeli leaders at the beginning of Arab unrest 10 months ago.

Already preoccupied with the nuclear ambitions of Iran, the widely predicted electoral triumph for mainstream and ultraconservative Islamist groups in Egypt has strengthened the sense of encirclement in the militarily powerful Jewish state.

Ministers have stayed silent about the vote, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already made clear that Israel may soon have to increase defense spending to face the challenge of growing Islamisation across the Arab world.

"The government is obviously very worried by what it has seen since the start of the Arab Spring," said Shlomo Brom, a senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University.

"When Israelis think of Islamic governments, the model they see in their eyes is the Islamic Republic of Iran," he said, adding that it was far from clear how an Egypt controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood would look.

Surely anyone can figure out how radical muzzies are going to react to Israel.

And this is news why?

Expect current administration to blame Israel for deterioration in middle eastern relations, i.e. Panetta’s lament of yesterday.

Any Israeli who thinks a muslim brotherhood government will in any way, shape or form be good for Israel is certifiably insane or actively working to destroy their own country.

But, but - the Leftosphere called it Arab Spring.

Well, guess what, boys - having a “democratic” election doesn’t mean you’ll end up with “freedom”. Towelheads: Hope you enjoy your coming Sharia Winter.

Me? I’m sticking with the Evil Zionist Entity. Go Joosh!

What are they worried about? Obama has done more for their security than anyone in history, including Moses. He said so himself. Ok, maybe he didn’t say the Moses part out loud but you know he considered it. And maybe he meant to say “to their security.” But still, Obama has their back. Why worry?

I'll throw in my lot with the "Zionists". Smart money goes with the percentages, and I like the odds of a disciplined and technological Israeli army against a surly bunch of ragheads. But, after the Israelis kick some Egyptian butt the next time, three things should be done:

1. Take over the Sinai, and this time keep it.

2. Extend the demilitarized zone to just west of Alexandria, which is probably where the Israeli army will end up.

3. Wipe out that festering stink hole known as the Gaza strip.

I like the plan. Israel should have kept the Sinai. On Gaza, time for some major housecleaning. Muslim Brotherhood needs to have their @$$es kicked by Israel.

Before I give the muzzies control of Egypt I have to see how the Egyptian military will respond to all of this. I see the possibility of a coup by the military if things get too radical.

not only should they take over sinai, they should take over the canal. Your other points are less important imo. I would evacuate all palestinians from the west bank and move them to gaza, then wall it up. They gotta dig a pretty long tunnel to get contraband if israel owns sinai and suez. Gaza doesn’t worry me.

Israel need only knock out A) the Aswan high dam and B) electrical power to Cairo, and do it at night — no more Egypt to worry about. Thanks BufalloSoldier.

Great point, which is why the Founders of the USA set up a republic and everyone involved in the process HATED democracy: They studied history (something purposely withheld from todays students) and knew that EVERY democracy in history eventually devolved into a totalitarian, tyrannical government. Which is why they allowed only 1/2 of 1/3 of the government to be directly, democratically elected.

Which is also why the leftists managed to institute the 17th Amendment and they're pushing for the elimination of the Electoral College, moving towards direct elections, knowing that's the sure way to ensure a path towards a totalitarian government.

Yes, take over the Canal, defend it and keep it open, and collect revenues. A good idea.

Gaza just seems like a festering sore, a thorn in the side of the Israelis. Whenever you have a thorn in you, just pull it out. And cleanse and cauterize the area, if necessary. Exactly what the Israelis should do, literally.

Send the Palis packing. See if their other brother Arabs are willing to take them in. My guess is not, as history shows. Other Arabs actually despise the Palis. That the Palis fail to see this convinces me all the more that they have to be among the stupidest people on earth.
