Obama 'very engaged' in eurozone rescue talks

US President Barack Obama is "very engaged" in talks with EU leaders on the eurozone rescue, but is keeping his advice behind closed doors rather than adding to the "cacophony" of solutions floated publicly, Washington's envoy to Brussels, William Kennard, told reporters on Friday (2 December).

With the experience of the 2009 financial crisis, the US administration "can offer a lot of advice, but we made a point in not discussing it publicly," Kennard said.

Ever since the G20 summit in Cannes last month, Obama "has been very engaged privately" on the eurozone crisis and "made many phone calls and bilateral meetings to offer his advice," the ambassador added, without wanting to go into any specifics of the solutions backed by Washington.

One of them, as reported in the financial media, is for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to take a leading role in the rescue. Kennard said that the IMF option was "not part of the discussion" at an EU-US summit in Washington on Monday and Tuesday. …

That's nice, Mr. President. High time we got disengaged from this socialist machine. (Why did we ever let them set it up in the first place?)

I get the impression that everyone in Eurtopia is sitting around trying to figure out ways to talk America or China out of huge gobs of cash without actually trying to fix the problems in their nation(s).

Right, he’s so engaged he’s leaving on a 17 day vacation. Does this guy ever work? To quote Chris Christie: “What are we paying you for?”

PS to CC: It’s not too late to jump in, the water’s fine.

No doubt Barry’s sending Corzine over to help, asap.

That’s what his teleprompter said to do.

Why doesn’t someone ask the obvious question: What could Obama possibly have to offer? It is almost certain that he has at best only the most superficial understanding of the stituation and, even if he understood it, he would never urge the right course of action (euthanasia of the EU welfare states.

“What could Obama possibly have to offer?”

For starters he could pull his jobs czar; GE’s ‘Immelt’ back from China and force...oops, ‘persuede’ him to employ Europeans rather than citizens of the United States.

Because once Obama becomes President, we'll stop sticking our noses into other nation's businesses and telling them what to do. I'm sure the Eurozone is an all-American institution.

Advice???? LOLOL Does anyone actually think they want the advice of the community organizer who is destroying the economy of the strongest country in the world

Probably his only “advice” they care about is us printing more money for them.
