The way it works here you must need a power chair to get around in your home for Medicare to cover it. You can use it to get around town but wanting to use it that way isn’t reason for Medicare to provide it..

Used to ride to work on Metro Rail ~ always this lady up front on the first car on the first train to DC in the morning ~ riding her fancy electrified wheelchair with racing slicks.

It barely fit, but when she got downtown she could make it across the street before the light turned red.

One day I encountered her in WalMart and she was in a more prosaic electric wheelchair. She said she'd given up her fancy wheels when she retired and now she needed something more appropriate to home use.

From her experience and this gentleman's request I suppose wheelchair bound people KNOW what they can handle even if others can't ~ and it's not just the racing stripes that attracts them to the bigger models.
