A gay couple who adopted nine boys have been accused of sexually assaulting two of the children.
But another adopted son of George Harasz and Doug Wirth insists his two fathers are innocent, and says his siblings have a disorder in which troubled foster children lash out at adults who try to connect with them.
Married 'fathers' Harasz and Wirth, who say they consider caring for hard-to-place children a personal challenge, adopted three sets of siblings, all boys, since 2000. George's two biological children and their mother also live at the large Victorian home in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
Accused: George Harasz, left, and Doug Wirth, right, were taken into custody charged with assaulting two of the boys they have adopted since 2000
According to their website, the family also run a dog breeding business from their home, with the original aim of helping the children learn to love and care for something.
Earlier this week Harasz was arrested and charged with assaulting two children and Wirth with assaulting one, police told the Hartford Courant.
Harasz, 48, was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, aggravated first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and cruelty to persons. Wirth, 43, was charged with one count of third-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. if they do not post bail , a combined $400,000, they will be arraigned today.

As police announced their arrests of the two men, DCF issued a statement about its role in placing the nine boys with Harasz and Wirth, and its commissioner said that the agency has revised its practices and policies in response to the case.

"Shortly after becoming Commissioner, I became aware of what had transpired with this family. I was horrified that adopted children could be so terribly abused by the adults who are responsible for their care. We immediately removed the children from the home and fortunately, were able to keep them together with their biological siblings. In addition, I ordered a close examination of our involvement and ensured that we would fully cooperate with Glastonbury police, Katz said in a statement released on Wednesday.

#2: Why would another of the boys say they are lying?
#3: Why would they do something that would be so obvious to most heterosexuals (gays molesting/assaulting boys)?
#4: Why don't I believe this, yet I believe Sandusky did assault boys?
It is just possible that they have been falsely accused as the older boy says. That is a risk run by anyone who fosters or adopts troubled, already abused children.
#2: Why would another of the boys say they are lying?
Any variety of reasons, including that the boy did not witness the abuse and honestly believes what he says.
#3: Why would they do something that would be so obvious to most heterosexuals (gays molesting/assaulting boys)?
Considering that homosexual couples are a politically and legally protected class, they may have felt that they were untouchable.
#4: Why don't I believe this, yet I believe Sandusky did assault boys?
I would be hard pressed to tell anyone the reason why they believe something :-)
Even filthy, disease-ridden queers deserve a fair trial.
If they’re guilty ...
Pedophiles and pederasts should be hanged by the neck until they are dead.
Probably, but at least the adult can choose to adopt or not.
Pity the well adjusted kid who's adopted by one of these troubled adults.
Quite true, although in today's politically-charged culture, I would imagine that a Connecticut police department will want to have some pretty ironclad evidence before they actually arrest and charge people over this particular type of crime.
What? I thought such things were allegedly “never going to happen” when same-sex “marriage” was implemented? Or that homosexuals were “only interested in adults not children”. Get ready for more as this to occur as our western culture continues to deteriorate.
This would never happen if we let gay couples mar...
Oh. Never mind.
Don't know how they are going to post bail; their home is in foreclosure.
They were cited for running a puppy-mill...claiming that the dogs helped the children overcome their trama.
In December 2009, Harasz was cited for a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals after Glastonbury's animal control officer went to the couple's home and found about 50 dogs in the basement.
The room had inadequate ventilation, and the smell of urine and feces was overwhelming, police said. Harasz's kennel license allowed him to have 10 dogs, police said. Harasz was granted accelerated rehabilitation, a special form of probation, and the charges were dismissed.
Sodomites are 12 times more likely to sexually offend children than normal people. The state should be sued for allowing these pervert monsters to adopt.
Interesting....I sincerely appreciate the added information and context.
12 times? Where does that figure come from?
Having said that, I'm willing to leave it up to a jury, which will, presumably, hear all the evidence.
Could the Penn State travesty revive the Silent Moral Majority...that would be the silver lining...
My wife and I cared for foster children about 35 years ago and of the 15 or so that we had, all but 1 was under 5 years old. The one exception was a 16 year old girl, she never accused us of any kind of abuse but I was always aware that the possibility existed that she could easily do it. She was a royal pain in the a$$ too.
The case worker "begged" us into taking care of her and we had her for about a year and she ran away from home and got married.
Carlos Harasz, 19, said Wednesday that he has lived with Wirth and Harasz for more than 10 years. He said that he had never witnessed or experienced the abuse the two are accused of committing.
Carlos Harasz, a student at Central Connecticut State University, said that he and his siblings were shuffled among foster families and were suffering from "reactive attachment disorder," which is common among children who have been passed from home to home or who have been removed from their parents' homes.
The condition can be lifelong, and its symptoms include withdrawal, aggression, lying, stealing and pushing away adults who attempt a lasting emotional connection.
The allegations against Harasz and Wirth were directly attributable to reactive attachment disorder, Carlos Harasz said.
In other words, in their hometown, these two were poster boys for gay marriage/adoption, with emphasis placed on their altruistic motives.
