The case for Herman Cain staying in the race
Hotair ^ | 11/30/2011 | Jazz Shaw

Ever since the last round of allegations against Herman Can from an alleged paramour, he’s experienced a dramatic drop in the polls and swirling rumors that he may be exiting the race. He’s now come out and said that, while he is considering that as an option, he’s waiting to discuss it with his family. But the sentiment that the sun has set on his unconventional campaign is not universal. Today we’ll share with you a sizable excerpt from one supporter who feels he should hang in there. The author is Chris Barron, one of the heads of GOproud, and he fleshes out his argument at length.

I have been on the Cain train since it was little more than an asterisk, and as a long time vocal supporter and donor, I for one hope Herman Cain does not drop out.

I love Herman Cain. I have spoken with him at length and I believe he is a good and decent person. I believe he is someone who speaks from the heart, someone who hasn’t been a product of our broken political system and someone who brings decades of real world business experience to this race. For me, however, this race has always been about the message and not just the messenger – and none of these allegations, true or false, about Cain’s personal life change the message one iota.

The message is simple: Washington is broken and it is the politicians – of all ideological and partisan stripes – that are responsible for it.

The Tea Party was a revolt against politics as usual. It was as much a revolt against the excesses of Republican politicians as it was a revolt against Democratic politicians. The Tea Party put Republican elected officials on notice that we – the base of the GOP – were not taking it anymore. Since the Tea Party led the GOP to historic wins in November of 2010, the Hill GOP – particularly House Republicans – have behaved in an uncharacteristic fashion. They have held the line on spending, refused to agree to raise taxes at all, and worked to reign in the size of government. These politicians didn’t suddenly get religion. They didn’t find political Jesus, they found fear – fear of the Tea Party. The only thing that stands between Republicans on the Hill going back to the bad old days of the Bush era GOP is the Tea Party.

Herman Cain’s campaign was and is the best opportunity for Tea Partiers to hold the politicians feet to the fire. The Cain campaign was and is the best way for the limited government base of the GOP to let the establishment know that we simply aren’t willing to accept big government Republicans any more than we are willing to accept big government Democrats.

There’s a fair bit more to read, but that should give you the flavor of it. (As a side programming note, we’ll be talking to Chris about this on The Not Ed Morrissey Show today in the second half of the show, which kicks off at 3:00 PM eastern.)

Questions of readiness, foreign policy experience and campaign organization aside, I accept that there are still more than a few reasons for Cain to remain in the race. His base of support is strong and his followers seem fairly fierce in their loyalty. (He hasn’t disappeared from the polling horizon entirely, though a lot of his support seems to have migrated to Newt.) Further, if Cain has amassed any campaign debt, he has even more incentive to remain. He should easily qualify for matching funds next month, and even if he doesn’t wind up winning the nomination, that would be a completely legal and legitimate way to retire that debt.

But probably the biggest reason is the people like Chris Barron. I really don’t see the kind of passion on display here among supporters for Romney or Newt. (Or Huntsman or even Perry these days, for that matter.) If Newt also stumbles – hardly an impossibility – maybe there is a second act in American politics. I’m sure T-Paw is still regretting dropping out so fast. And if he’s got enough cash on hand to keep up a bare minimum of appearances, what’s the point in quitting before the first vote is cast?

"Herman Cain says he hasn't yet faced his wife and family to discuss a woman's accusation of a 13-year extramarital affair."

Don't know about you, but there's something wrong with this picture.

It is simple, he has not talked to her in person yet, however, he has talked to her on the phone.

Lin Wood will be on CNN Piers Morgan, he is going over the money shakedown and the phone calls..

He says he hasn’t discussed this allegation with wife or family, but he’s discussed it in campaign meetings and conference calls. Nice.

Only Herman Cain has a chance to break the stranglehold democrats have on the black voting block. I have little doubt Herman can accomplish that. And that will make it near impossible for Zero to win 2nd term. Once you understand that it is easy to see why Bialek surfaced after 15 years, living in the same building as David Axelrod and frequenting the same gym.

As for the most recent Ms. White’s allegations , whether true or false, matters little since no crime has occurred. It is the message that counts, not the messenger. I have serious doubts about these allegation based on the background of the accuser, but even if true, it will matter so little in the future of this country.

IN PERSON. You think he hasn’t been on the phone with his wife?

No there’s not, he is talking about FACE TO FACE. He has had events in NH, Ohio, and Oklahoma - he heads home today. He has spoken to his family on the phone, obviously.

I stand corrected. He hasn’t discussed it with his wife or family ‘IN PERSON’.

He didn’t say that. Why would you think this?

Don't know about you, but there's something wrong with this picture.

Herman Cain has a campaign schedule he has to meet.

Pure Bull. Cain has stated many times that the day the story broke he talked to his wife about it, and stated he denied the allegation to her. He also has stated that his wife told him she believed him.

Gotta say, if it didn’t happen there would be no need for a “sitdown” with the wife. There’s some there there. Sadly I think Cain may be done, and I was going to vote for the guy.

He didn’t say that. Why would you think this?

Because he is a supporter of Newt Gingrich, and much like his candidate, his honor is only skin deep.

With many of these Newt supporters, anything, even non-issue, non-provable, and anything negative without factual evidence is fair game.

Anything to hurt a competitor to their candidate.

"Don't know about you, but there's something wrong with this picture." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's wrong? Are you reading this as in he has been hiding something from his wife? If so then I think you are falling for the deliberate spin by the author.

Read the story again with this in mind. He is on the road campaigning, so he hasn't "faced his wife" to discuss anything! Second, how can he discuss this accusation with his wife before the accuser made up the story? Do you expect Cain to discuss affairs that never happened with all women that he may know or had contact with that may at any moment make up a story about an affair with him? This story is a play on words and deliberately written to mislead the reader.

You know what they say about the word ASSUME, right?

Another perspective might be, he just want's to see what his wife's perspective is about staying in the race, and it has nothing to do about the validity of the charges, since he has already stated without any hesitation they are not true.

I may be the only person who has this picture in the back of my mind, but at least one person has it in their minds-eye.

Goria AlWeed is standing behind a podium with a picture of Herman Cain in her right hand shaking it up and down with a big snarl on her pus. “How can we as Americans allow this to happen to these innocents?”

On her left are two or three women. Then there’s a big line behind them that has young girls, a couple of young boys, a cow, a goat, a camel, a sheep, and two turtle-doves.

Standing about ten feet behind the turtle-doves, is Obama with a big “S”-eating grin on his face, with Soros, Ayers, Wright, and a sign with Obama’s face on it, with a caption, “Yes we can, and will!”

This guy can hang with domestic terrorists and damners of the U.S. Cain gets charged with something that even if it were true, would register less than 1/100th as important to the safety of our nation.

Obama got no vetting whatsoever. We may have an illegal alien as a president, but the media doesn’t give a hoot. “Let it rest, he’s black, he’s brilliant, we want him back.”

What’s actually quite funny, is that Cain has only been charged with affairs, and so it has cost him. We have another candidate who was proven to have had two affairs. This hasn’t hurt him at all.

We live in a wing-nut nation. Both sides have more than their fair share, that’s for sure.

Maybe someone in his family was not aware that Ginger White and Kimberly Vay were bisexual and they need to have family discussion about all those matters and what God's Word says about these things.

True or not, these types of charges cause a lot of pain and pressure on the family. Friends want to know the full scoop. Some of them won’t believe the truth even from the wife. Then there’s the kids.

If she remains strong and this doesn’t bother her, Cain can continue. If she has been worn down by this and is having a hard time, he’ll have to consider it heavily. No guy want’s his wife to live in misery.

I look at the history of these women, and am not impressed with their veracity. It’s not that hard to get someone’s private line, if you want it bad enough. Sometimes, if you work for the same organization, the paperwork falls right into your hands.

If the Cain family was helping this woman, it’s certain there was communication.

I’m just not buying the word of a woman who has been involved in so many negative situations prior to this.

Cain has a good rep. She doesn’t, yet she’s the one people believe. It’s a sad take on our society.
