I sympathize with his frustration, and I hope he can find something to do that he'll like. Can he free-lance? I agree with you that it's going to get worse. Most of the 46 people who were laid off with me have found new jobs, but I hear the cuts throughout the Missile Defense Agency will be as bad or worse in 2012. I've actually become enthusiastic about leaving, since I've discovered I can free-lance, and I hope there's a similar solution for your husband.

I work as a civilian for DoD and have to retire at the end of 2011. I'll be looking for work in our local area. I won't miss Austin traffic.
