Glenn Beck Smears Ron Paul With Half-Truths About Paul's Earmarks.
Today on his radio show Glenn Beck and his staff declared that Ron Paul is the "earmark king", and labeled Paul a hypocrit. Beck correctly stated that Paul adds many earmarks to spending bills, and then votes against the spending bills. What Beck left out (either by deceit or by ignorance) is that earmarks do not increase the size of a budget. The money allocated for a budget is set by the Appropriations Committee prior to any allocation or earmark. All money not allocated or earmarked is not deleted from the budget, but rather is turned over the the executive branch to spend as it sees fit.
According to Wikipedia [re. Earmark], "Scott Frisch and Sean Kelly point out that directing money to particular purposes is a core constitutional function of Congress. If Congress does not make a specific allocation, the task falls to the executive branch; there is no guarantee that the allocation made by executive agencies will be superior to Congress's. Presidents and executive officials can use the allocation of spending to reward friends and punish enemies." They also warned the "Tea Party's Anti-Earmark Crusade Gives More Power to President Obama".
Those are important points. Unallocated money has no transparency, and therefore can be used by the President to reward friends and punish enemies, without public scrutiny. Therefore, by earmarking as much as he can, Ron Paul is increasing the transparency of government spending. Until the Congress passes a law that requires all unallocated money to be deleted from the budget and returned to the Treasury, Congressman Paul is doing all he can do to increase the transparency of federal expenditures.
Glenn Beck is constantly preaching to us about the importance of (honorable) character. Maybe Beck should practice what he preaches.
Now get lost.
You don’t think that Paul pays for his earmarks with key votes that favor the Democrats?
You really are a naif.
Ron Paul sponsored or co-sponsored 8 earmarks totalling $27,066,000 in fiscal year 2008 ranking 163rd out of 435 representatives.
>>>Ron Paul was my representative when I lived in Texas. He would get his share of earmarks, but loaded them onto bills that were sure to pass, and then voted against them.<<<
I don’t believe you understand the budgeting/earmarking process. Correct me if I am wrong.
“Yea, right. Turn the money over to Obama and his thugs. Brilliant!”
First my stance on Paul: Raving lunatic.
Secondly: Paul is not only raving mad, he is very corrupt if in fact he is earmarking, then voting against.
Thirdly: Beck is also a raving lunatic, but a lunatic with very good fact checkers. I quit watching him when he started crying on Fox. Seeing a grown man cry over politics, is just disgusting. I mean, yeah, you can cry to yourself, but crying in front of me just makes you out to be a doomer. Who knows, we may be heading for DOOM and GLOOM! But I surely will participate in a attempt at recovery rather than crying on TV about it.
And in regards to your statement quoted above, how about not putting them in, in the first place? Then I might would trust him.
I am not going to call you any names or attempt to value your worth to society by your unbridled affection for Mr. Paul, but I would guess you have some motive for attempting to shoot Beck down on this, with a unsubstantiated post attacking a man (Beck) who is very important to at least a small percentage of Free Republic members.
Evidently you find Paul lacking yourself, or you just like stirring the pot. I was accused of being a liberal for giving a person to choices when I called them out on their idiotic rambling. So, have any choice you want, but my *view* is that you only have *two*.
>>>Ron Paul sponsored or co-sponsored 23 earmarks totalling $80,775,750 in fiscal year 2009 ranking 33rd out of 435 representatives.<<<
Great! That’s $80,775,750 Obama and his thugs couldn’t get their filthy hands on. Hat’s off to Ron Paul!
>>Noted.
Now get lost.
Well, Bless your heart.
“Great! Thats $80,775,750 Obama and his thugs couldnt get their filthy hands on. Hats off to Ron Paul!”
You posted this thread claiming Beck was wrong on earmarks.
But now he is proven right, and you attempt to flip it into he was doing a good deed for us?
Can’t you come up with something more ingenious than that?
Yes, I agree. But the waste and corruption has to stop somewhere. Paul can't do it alone. But Paul - or someone like him - must stand up and boldly lead the way on this.
Perhaps the budget should be suggested by the (supposedly) neutral Congressional Budget Office. That's not unconstitutional. Congress can solicit advice from whoever they wish. Let the CBO suggest where the money is to be spent, impartially. Then let Congress vote on the plan, up or down.
If the CBO plan is voted down, so be it. Then back to business as usual. But then we'll see who really puts pork over country.
Yeah, I know I'm dreaming...

>>>Paul is not only raving mad, he is very corrupt if in fact he is earmarking, then voting against.<<<
You have been greatly deceived. Ron Paul is one of the most sane people to ever hold political office.
Regarding voting against every budget, you are correct that he does, in every case. He will not vote for a budget until there are no unconstitutional expenditures. His earmarking is a strategy to increase transparency. Nothing more, nothing less. He would prefer the entire budget be earmarked so we can see how our money is spent. Even better, reduce the budget to include only constitutionally authorized expenditures.
>>>Beck is also a raving lunatic, but a lunatic with very good fact checkers.<<<
His fact checking was poor this time, as is the fact checking for quite a few Freepers on this matter.
>>>I would guess you have some motive for attempting to shoot Beck down on this, with a unsubstantiated post attacking a man (Beck) who is very important to at least a small percentage of Free Republic members.<<<
My motive is this: Beck smeared an honorable man with half-truths and innuendos.
>>>Evidently you find Paul lacking yourself, or you just like stirring the pot.<<<
Not really. I am only trying to set the record straight. Paul’s record on earmarking has been spun by haters and the ignorant to make his honorable intentions appear to be dishonorable.
>>>You dont think that Paul pays for his earmarks with key votes that favor the Democrats?<<<
Nope. But you are welcome to proved some proof.
Paul is two-faced and inconsistent at best.
The whole system is corrupt. What “extra” money not allocated? Better yet - WHAT BUDGET? The automatic budgeting system set up by the DEMOCRATS to kick the lack of a budget, insane spending, down the road that automatically just jacks up spending levels each fiscal year. Of course with a system of “budgeting” like that, there is going to be “slack” - it is intentional to build in an automatic slush fund for legislators (or the President if the porker lawmakers neglect to pend it up).
The reality - what constitutional grounds is this form of budgeting? How about a budget that is limited to constitutional government, and that sets legitimate budgets, and provides no vote-buying slush fund. Unspent money should go to pay down the debt or be refunded to taxpayers (real taxpayers, not those who get taxpayer-funded bonuses).

Just think what Obama could have done with that money. He could have beefed up the EPA regulatory arm, or given it to his union buddies.

Ron Paul is funding Al Sharpton to set up shop in South Texas...lol
>>>You posted this thread claiming Beck was wrong on earmarks.<<<
Actually I claimed, more or less, that he was smearing Ron Paul with half-truths and innuendos.
>>>But now he is proven right, and you attempt to flip it into he was doing a good deed for us?<<<
Beck has not been proven right. A half-truth is a lie.
