Ashley Smithwick, 17, of Sanford told WRAL she accidentally took her father's lunchbox to Southern Lee High School in October instead of her own when school officials searched the lunchbox, along with several other students' possessions, possibly looking for drugs.
Ashley's father, Joe Smithwick told the station the lunchbox had a paring knife inside so that he could slice up an apple that accompanied it.
"It's just an honest mistake. That was supposed to be my lunch because it was a whole apple," he said.
But school officials didn't see it that way.
The athlete who takes college-level courses was suspended for the remainder for the school year, banned from campus and this month was charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school grounds, WRAL reported.

Education has never guaranteed intelligence.
I was in a customers home once and got led into a discussion about
education. I bluntly said those who cannot do, teach. Then I went on to
tell how useless Liberals Arts was to any possible future and it was a waste of time.
The look on her face was surprise. After she left, her husband told me
that she was a college instructor of liberal Arts! They took it pretty well
since they didn't fire me and wanted me to do more work on their home.
It was a proud moment.
OMG, I despise what passes for public education. The whole system needs dismantling.

The fruit of government education welfare. When will the “conservative” education welfare queens decide that their children are more important than “stuff”. “me-time”, etc., give up the obvious lie that their schools are “different”, and rescue their children?
Why the hell would you tell on yourself at all?
Oh for the day when every boy had a pocket knife, and no one worried about them using them.
Hopefully her parents learned a VERY HARD lesson - that is when you send your chold to a public school, you put your chold in the hands of people that HATE SUCCESS and ACHIEVEMENT (i.e., OWS types). If you give them an opening, they will find a way to cut your chold down to size, and then they will hold a party (amongst themselves) to celebrate their latest ‘success’.

Given that school administrators and teachers are not allowed to use their intellect, why should we believe that they are underpaid?
They can pick up their condoms from the school nurse and add that that to the mix.
That would stop this BS in a day.
