PICKET: Schumer and Bill Clinton plant kisses of death on Newt

The New Hampshire Union Leader's endorsement of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich could not have come at a better time for the former Georgia Republican Congressman, as he is getting kisses of death from places GOP primary voters are not necessarily fond of.

Senator Chuck Schumer, New York Democrat, knows very well that any kind of support from him towards a Republican candidate could deep six that GOP'er in as fast as New York minute. Sen. Schumer was asked by Meet the Press's David Gregory on Sunday about former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich's recent ascent to the top of the Republican presidential primary pack.

Mr. Schumer seized upon Gingrich's thoughts on how to solve the nation's illegal immigration problem.

(10:12 in from video above) "He’s clearly a smart guy, and look I give him some credit for not just blowing with the winds on an issue like immigration. That showed real courage and I think people are looking for courage and leadership," said Senator Schumer.

This is just New Hampshire being New Hampshire. This means nothing in reality. Their only intention is knocking the front runner (whomever that may be) down.

I can see they have YOU fooled. The only reason they are doing this is to insure Massachusetts Liberal cult memmer Romney gets the nod.

True Christian conservatives, en masse, will not vote for Romney no matter what, so many have moved (holding their noses) over to Gingrich. The Dems see Gingrich as a threat so THEY endosre hom to push Christians FROM him, knowing we won't go to Romney....Leaving Romney in front.

Nothing is as it seems with Romney's buddies, EVER....

ROMNEY IS BILL CLINTON ON NEARLY EVERY ISSUE !...Gingrich's House impeached Clinton.

Free Republic is a bit temperamental today. Hopefully things will be all better by tomorrow. Of course this could be a case of Anonymous just getting warmed up for the election season.

Yeah, and we all see who's on your side. Chuckie Schumer and clinton. It's a proud day for you...

It sounds like to me that the dems might be doing their version of Rush’s Operation Hillary. They are trying to manipulate the polls and conservative opinion.

I do not know who I plan to vote for. I am hoping that by the time the primaries get to my state there will be someone worthwhile left in the race to vote for.

Right. Chuckie is giving Newt the “kiss of death” because they don’t want to run against Newt. They want to run against Romney. And the shallow thinkers will follow along and cheer his demise. All in all, though, not totally bad...there is no such thing as bad press and these stories only cement Newt as the strongest alternative to Romney.

I think that they are hoping that Gingrich will win the nomination because they view him as the weaker candidate nationally, particularly since like all the other candidates other than Romney, he’s got no money.

The problem for conservatives is that there really isn’t much alternative. We can go with Cain or Gingrich, neither of whom really fits the bill, and both of whom are going to be tough sells against Obama’s money.

Or we can go with Romney, who is really pretty much the same as Obama philosophically.
