WASHINGTON Newt Gingrich isnt backing off his humane immigration stance despite complaints from Republican hardliners and fellow Presidential hopefuls hes embellishing it.
The former House speaker issued 10 Steps to a Legal Nation this week, expanding on his remarks during Tuesdays GOP debate

Those guilty only of sneaking into the U.S. would have a path to legality, but not citizenship similar to the existing naturalization process, plus a penalty fee of at least $5,000.

The great issues of our day do not include what to do about Juan Valdez who is selling coffee beans on the street corner.
It is 60 million babies murdered, spending debt that totals 15 trillion with 90 trillion in obligations, the threat of Russia/China/Iran, the spread of Islamo-fascism and the attacks on Christ and Christ-believing people around the world. Millions of Assyrian Christians have been murdered and they are now starting on the Copts....it IS the Great Tribulation for those people.
Come on....do you really think the bulk of them would be stupid enough to cross a one-way international border?
And what makes you think that we can make the southern border impenetrable anyway? I know how to do it (as does everyone else reading here), but our government doesn't have the willpower to implement such measures.
On top of that, no matter how strong the defense, some will always find a way to get through. The real answer is to turn off the magnet that is drawing them here to begin with. Take away the welfare benefits and the jobs, and they'll leave on their own, never to return.
The most maddening thing about the whole issue, is that that approach precisely aligns with the laws already on our books. All it takes is honest enforcement, and the problem is solved. This really isn't complicated. Those who wish to see the status quo continued, are making it so.
I can see it. He wants to secure it "At the same time" as making it easier to cross legally via processes like Krieble's Red Card. I'll let others decide for themselves just how much 'border securing' will go on since Kreible essentially wants an open border.
This is not a hard question. As the son of a LEGAL Hispanic, these arguments bother me a lot. While your question might have merit to you, it is a moot point. First of all, we are dealing with a collective group of people...ILLEGAL aliens. Should they be treated collectively, yes. Now, for individually, each circumstance is different. I am sympathetic to those who are here illegally, but who have paperwork hung up in some bureaucratic office...they don’t count in this debate. But, if someone is here illegally, they BROKE the law coming here...why is that so hard for people like you to understand? Why should my father have taken the trouble to become an American citizen when people like Newt offer incentives to those here illegally?
“Why should my father have taken the trouble to become an American citizen when people like Newt offer incentives to those here illegally?”
Because we have a ‘heart’ and are not ‘inhumane’. That’s why...LOL.
You are so full of crap it is unbelievable. The reason Cain didn’t sign the pledge was because of the 4th point. But to say he is making it up as he goes along is bogus...he is the ONLY candidate to put down $1 million of his own money to advance the pro-life cause. Perry is done. Gingrich will be done. What is your problem with Cain? Think...it will help you.
“I do wish some of the posters were a little less quick to pass judgment. It’s easy, especially on the Internet, to say harsh or hurtful things, but it’s not necessary.”
“It takes longer to really understand and appreciate where a person is coming from and to respond in a respectful, circumspect way, but the results are almost always worth the effort.”
Perhaps your fantasy writings are of better quality and speak honestly of your personal convictions, but I’m not as yet driven to think so.....
Yep, to go along with Newt’s compassionate legality and red card, he wants illegals to be able to apply for citizenship on a visit home. The total net effect is massive citizenship amnesty.
You are determined to make this personal. Is it an obsession? I object to liberals passing ‘illegals’ off as ‘immigrants’. I object to conservatives calling the distinction between the two a nonsensical ‘nitpick’. If you’re going to post a poll w obvious liberal bias, why not note that fact? Now you’re on a vendetta, and it’s weird. It’s not personal w me. It seems to be ONLY personal w you. Creepy.
Exactly. Because those that want citizenship are likely to have done something about it.
If that's the picture you have of illegal immigration, you are sorely uninformed about the scale of the problem.
In my own business, the presence of illegal aliens in the workforce has driven down wages to such an extent, that my family's income has been reduced 40% over the last half decade. We've nearly been driven out of business by illegal labor in our industry.
Small American businesses who try to play by the rules, and obey the law, are being scalped by their unscrupulous competitors, who pay near-slave wages to illegals to undercut the competition's prices. This has driven hundreds of thousands of honest Americans out of business, and destroyed what were once good paying industries.
I used to employ eight Americans full-time, year-round, and I paid them up to $30 an hour for their skilled labor. Today, I don't have any employees, because the wages in my industry have been forced down to less than half of what I used to pay my top guys.
Americans can't work at the wages now prevailing, because they're not being illegally subsidized by the feds and the states, as illegal workers are. Because of this, there's been a mass exodus out of the building trades by Americans.
Guys like me, who've spent their entire careers building their position in an industry (such as mine), are now back to being one man operations, and holding on for dear life. There are hundreds of thousands of us, yet we're only the tip of the iceberg. This plague has infected dozens of industries and cultural strongholds across America. And it's getting worse.
What incentives are you referring to?
“What incentives are you referring to? “
Legalization and the ability to keep working here, for starters...
He put his foot in the mouth over this one. That is for sure.
Amnesty has to be an important part because there are people who have lived in this country for 20, 30 or 40 years, who have raised children here, paid taxes here and are not citizens. That has to be a component of it.
~John McCain
LOL @ you...
Look, this entire theme that you are focusing on with me is seen by me as ridiculous. I actually believe that folks on FR can evaluate what they think of a given poll without my guidance or warning...
LOL... You remind me of the fact that some folks actually need those silly “warnings” on the items they purchase..... such as the warning on a microwave stating that it “should not be used to dry your hair.”
Have a nice day......
He's just saying what you want to hear.
What is his position on deporting or legitimizing illegal aliens and their families?
Has he made any definitive statement? If so, show me a link.
Don’t know if I can numerically prioritize all the issues I’m concerned about, but Life is easily at the top. It’s my number one litmus test when it comes to choosing a candidate for the presidency. The candidate must have a good record of supporting Life. Period. Automatically rules out pro-abortion politicians like Giuliani and Romney. The candidate must also have a pro-family record. Homosexual “rights” activists need not apply. Obviously, as a constitutional conservative, my preferred candidate must also be for small (constitutionally limited) government which leads to lower spending, lower taxing, lower borrowing, less government, fewer regulations, less corruption. He must preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the US and the Bill of Rights. No record of advocating for gun control or other anti-liberty liberal/progressive issues. He must be for strong national security, strong national defense, secure borders. He must be fully committed to faithfully executing and enforcing the laws of the land and that means he must be committed to enforcing the immigration laws and SECURING THE BORDER!
