It sounds like Gingrich is proposing a work permit program that enables illegals to stick around forever without ever being eligible for naturalization. The problem with such a program is that we don’t need it, and these workers are having children who automatically become American citizens. All we need to do is step up enforcement, and pass new legislation imposing prison terms and felony convictions for employers who knowingly hire illegals, and they will leave the country of their own accord, at no cost to the taxpayer except for the cost of hiring additional immigration agents.

Illegal immigration is not a simple problem, so the answers are not simple.

Not sure..but aren’t there already laws on the book stating that very thing in several states? I would go a step further and CHARGE the employers that hire illegals knowingly the full cost of the deportation...including the families. Taxpayers should not have to bear the burden of what could evolve into an enormous expense. IF you hire illegals...you will be fined and pay all deportation costs..period.

Sadly I agree. How about we try just enforcing our laws? I was leaning heavily towards Newt, but his out smarted him self on this issue. I am back to having no candidate in the race. I expect Newt to take a big hit in the polls over this. Totally unnecessary, control the boarder and enforce our laws first then if that does not work we can try something else.
