Yes, he’s experienced.

Jimi Hendrix has been proclaimed the “Greatest Guitarist of All Time” by a panel of musicians wrangled by Rolling Stone Magazine.

They got this one right. Jimi was the best. The greats know that, including Clapton, Duane Allman, SRV, etc. Clapton was GOD before Jimi came around.

I adore Stevie Ray! But in his heyday......( now unwelcome justly or not)
Pete Townshend was my guy.
Just sayin’.
I always vote for America!!
Go Stevie Ray!

Well, this is Rolling Stoned, so I’ll wager that they have never heard of Andres Segovia or Ana Vidovic.

Spodefly’s Top Ten Guitarists of All Time* (in no particular order):

Steve Howe
Eric Johnson
Steve Morse
Jimi Hendrix
Pat Metheny
David Gilmour
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Jimmy Page

*Based on technical facility, capability for multiple styles of play, soul, feel, sound, uniqueness.

Don’t even try to argue with this list, because I have checked it carefully and it is 100% correct.

Yep, good call.

But does anyone remember Yngwie Malmsteen?

Maybe Mick Taylor instead of Keith, btw, the Stones have released their long awaited live set from their European 73 tour. Internet only for now. Hot stuff, I have had the Bedspring Symphony for years.

RS still does not like Jorma Kaukonen, eh? Or Stevie Ray, for that matter.

Good list. I like it more than the list RS compiled. You left out a few, but it’s a start.

Any list of great guitarists that does not have Joe Bonamassa in the top 20 has no validity.

Be hard to vote against SRV. That guy could tie a geetar in knots. I lean toward Knopfler, or Atkins, but I lurve me some Stevie Ray. He is a home boy. James Marshall Hendrix could pull some strings, though. He was a visionary.

On a side note, RIP Doyle Bramhall. Another local legend.

Joe Perry
Steve Vai
Frank Zappa
Michael Hedges
Joe Satriani
Alex Lifeson
Phil Campbell
Kerry King & Jeff Haneman
Dave Grisolm
Jerry Garcia
Jerry Cantrell
Randy Rhodes
Michael Schenker
Johnny Winter
Buddy Guy

And on and on an on...

There are too many fantastic guitar players out there to call
anyone “the best”. Jimmi was great, but let’s bring these magazine polls back to reality.

I believe EVH deserves that rank before Mick Taylor.

I would add Eddie Van Halen and Jeff Beck if it was the top 12.
