...The latest frontrunner in the Republican presidential race, Newt Gingrich, faced a conservative backlash on Wednesday after advocating a "humane" approach to illegal immigrants, a red hot issue for Tea Party activists and other rightwingers.

His proposal to allow most of the country's estimated 12 million illegal immigrants to remain in the US – which he made during Tuesday night's nationally televised GOP debate in Washington – runs counter to Republican orthodoxy, which is opposed to amnesty and in favour of expulsion. ....

Gettin' hot, folks.

Does Newt think we are stupid? His plan SUCKS, the ACLU would file suit and have them all declared US Citizens and democrat voters.

The US media was divided over whether Gingrich's views on immigration should be lauded as a rare example of courage and honesty on the part of an American politician or another example of him shooting himself in the foot.

The "American media" may be divided but conservatives are not.

NO ILLEGALS.

NO AMNESTY.

NO NEWT.

Somehow the concept of “Do justice. Love mercy. And walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8) does not line up especially well with the idea of putting 11 million Hispanics into cattle cars (Yes, plenty of Freepers advocate this) and shipping them back to Mexico.

Newt is right on this one.

Flame away.

HELL, NO!

I don’t want an Open Borders Republican as the nominee of our Party and I don’t want him anywhere is near the White House.

What Gingrich said is a deal-breaker. I could hold my nose and really overlook a lot of other things but not this one. He has lost my vote.

I hope he ends up in single digits. We cannot have an alien lover. We got rid of that nasty Perry. We can get rid of Nasty Newt.

Nothing wrong with saying Americans are humane people.

We are.

When America finally realize that we are not permitted by law to get rid of anchor babies, who are legitimate American citizens, then they’ll realize that we’re not getting rid of their parents, and by extension, their grandparents.

You might send the grandparents home, but they can come indefinitely on visitor visas.

I’m done with Newt. I gave him a chance and I was ready to overlook his adultery and global warming scam, but he is doubling down with perryesque pro-illegal stance.

Go to hell Newt. I cannot vote scumbag like you.

I think Michele deserves second look.

memo to y’all.
I pray your candidate does well in Iowa.

I’d like to see Newt beat Romney in New Hampshire.

Bachmann, Perry, Cain: in the real world, they have no campaign in New Hampshire and their support is reduced to their core supporters which is usually not enough to get out of single digits.

The expectation right now in NH, order of finish:
1. MITT
2. NEWT
3. ronPaul
4. Huntsman
5. & 6. Michele & Cain
7. Perry
8. Santorum beats out Johnson & Roemer.

It is very difficult (impossible) to convince volunteers to campaign for somebody who is in single digits 47 days before the primary.

Newt has a long string of baggage like a freight train. From individual mandate, Dede Scozzafava, “conservative social engineering”, House Bank, not wanting to give up his mandate, Freddie Mac’s millions (worked an hour a month?) etc etc.

Newt is not the man.

Where was Newt when Perry made pro-illegal immigrant mumblings and his poll numbers went into the sewer? Apparently, he didn’t get that little memo from advisers.

Click to my homepage for full transcription, but here's the highlights of his remarks in the debate:

"...deal with this as a comprehensive approach that starts with controlling the border"

"...ultimately you have to find some system – once you’ve put every piece in place, which includes the guest worker program, you need something like a World War II Selective Service Board that, frankly, reviews the people who are here."

“...if you’ve come here recently, you have no ties to this country, you ought to go home, period. If you’ve been here 25 years and you got three kids and two grandkids, you’ve been paying taxes and obeying the law, you belong to a local church, I don’t think we’re going to separate you from your family, uproot you forcefully and kick you out.”

“The Krieble Foundation is a very good red card program that says you get to be legal, but you don’t get a pass to citizenship."

“I do believe if you’ve been here recently and have no ties to the US, we should deport you. I do believe we should control the border. I do believe we should have very severe penalties for employers, but I would urge all of you to look at the Krieble Foundation plan.”

"His proposal to allow most of the country's estimated 12 million illegal immigrants to remain in the US"

Most? That is a gross distortion of what Newt actually said.
