I was only 15 in 1994, when Newt Gingrich experienced his last great moment. (Well, before this one, where he’s surging in the polls, with his campaign having figured out how to run for President.) So I don’t really remember Newt’s glory days.
I have interviewed him on many occasions, however, as far back as 2006 and as recently as last month, and every time we talk, I’m struck by how smart he is. Despite that, I can’t get past the nagging voice in my head telling me that no matter how good he would be at running the country, he doesn’t deserve to.
Call me a square, but Newt’s past mistakes occupy both columns: character and politics. From his ugly romantic entanglements to his flirtation with environmentalism to his questionable relationship with Freddie Mac, bad decisions and lapses in judgment have been too frequent for a man of such obvious intelligence.
And yet, for all his mistakes, Newt remains startlingly unembarrassed, which makes those mistakes even less palatable. Though arrogance and a lack of shame characterize Capitol Hill, I’m suspicious of a guy who’s had so many public errors, and is so untroubled by them.

HUH ? Not sure if this was totally directed at me or me and anyone else who may be reading or what but I wasn’t bashing or trashing Sarah.
I simply was pointing out that some who are ripping into Newt for the *same* thing Sarah said, are or were ardent Sarah supporters BECAUSE she is Uber conservative.
I actually think that she is and she uses the good ole common sense that God gave her. Something that is sorely lacking today in our society.
Dunno how anyone could really put a number on the illegals here... but we know it’s in the millions at minimum.

No. I understand you weren’t trashing Sarah but pointing out the hypocrisy of those that did and I agree. They are claiming 12 million - how they arrive at that I have no idea and they probably don’t know either - they just repeat it.
They are too busy enjoying their itchy ears being scratched with rhetoric to think that far ahead. More than likely, incapable of thinking that far ahead or afraid their bubble will burst.

I live in a border state and can say from first hand experience, ILLEGAL aliens have destroyed the construction industry by both depressing wages and taking jobs. They cause up to 12 hour waits in the emergency rooms and in some cases have caused the closing of hospital emergency rooms who went broke caring for them. Crime rates remain high and jails are filled. Schools districts are broke as well as state, county and city budgets. It is a mess monstrous proportion and it is directly attributable to millions of ILLEGAL invaders and the liberals and/or faux conservatives who defend them.
You sound like the liberals who cry ‘you’re a racist’s when you don’t go along with them. So try your liberal games on someone who isn’t so easily conned like you.
No one is making apologies for illegals. It’s OBVIOUS things go over your head since you have it stuck in someone’s butt - that’s why you are sickened.

But you go after Bachmann because she actually said, *gasp* deport them- a sentiment shared by the majority of Americans, let alone conservatives. Oh, and even Sarah Palin said deport them.
So over my head? Hardly. I'm addressing reality, the *conservative* position of putting Americans first and making illegals pay for their crime- no matter how long they've been here.
But those of you who have your heads so far up the a$$es of the GOP/Hispanic/RINO illegal apologists are the ones who got us in this mess in the first place. If it hadn't been for the ruse of compassionate conservatism, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now with illegals.

Millions of Americans are sick of illegals, their special treatment, and the pandering to them by all politicians, especially republicans.
And we will make our voices heard with our vote.
1. Put a time limit on welfare for American citizens. 3 months and you're done. When that time is up and you don't have a job, you go to work in the fields and every other job that 'Americans won't do' that illegals have taken. You will EARN your keep. Eliminate those jobs and illegals have no working incentive to be here.
2. Give all illegals 30 days to get out. During that time, all States are given the power to protect their sovereignty and empower all law enforcement to do ID checks when someone is pulled over. It has already been shown to work in Arizona. Entire towns have gone under because of this law.
3. At the end of 30 days, all illegals who are captured are sent packing on the next available way out with the option of: A. Never returning OR B. Return to country or origin not before: Paying a $5000 fine for every year here illegally and C. Applying for legal immigration with the understanding that for every year you have been here illegally, it's 2 years to wait before the formal process begins. So if you've been here for 5 years, you have to wait 10 years to apply.
And yes, they will be very easy to find. Swoop down on them, round them up and ship them out. Including grandma.
4. Punish the hell out of those who employ illegals. $100,000 fine for every illegal employed. This includes those who employ nannies, landscapers, etc. NO ONE IS EXEMPT.
5. Build a border fence on the entire southern border of the US. Huge job creator as it will take muscle and brains to design a system that will work. We have the best engineering minds in the world. We can do this.
6. Put troops on the border with order to detail any illegals and ship them back. If met with hostility, they are free to fire at will.
7. Enforce the laws on the books
8. Make eVerify the rule of law
