I disagree with the penalty also. 2097 head of cattle should be git a rope time.
If you put the cattle-rustling perp on a prison ship, would you put him in “Steerage”?
OK, it’s late.
Okay, I’ll try once more...
Yes, he was stealing and deserves to be incarcerated.
No, he does not deserve to be in jail for 99 years.
Yes, MF Global folks should be in jail for 99 years. They stole billions - not millions.
No, MF Global folks will go free or serve little or no time.
Yes Justice sucks! If your going to jail people for years, at least it should be based on injury and justice. Do you really think that the MF Global folks that lost billions for their clients are going to be jailed according to those standards?
This has occurred many times for White Collar crimes compared to others. The actual harm is much greater for these White Collar crimes but did you see any length of sentence added? Of course not, only White Collar crimes. When the culprit gets out, he will enjoy millions that he gathered during his spree - with no criminal problems.
Do I really need to make my point any clearer?
You’re being silly... You should reserve rope for politicians.
You’re just being silly now... Either get real and discuss the over-zealous sentence or stop...
Yes having gotten up at 3:00 in the morning and checked on the cows and the hogs when it’s cold you just don’t like to be robbed.
You are tired and cold and have no interest, and a thief is still a thief.
Okay...have a good one (hope you don’t get robbed)...
Roughly $1200.00 per critter currently, and each one has the potential to make more next year.
Severe would be dragging him to death behind a horse.
Hanging is traditional.
The guy got off light.
Yes, you are also looking at the sentence as deserved instead of looking at the whole picture...
Heck, and I’m from Texas - but as least I see the difference in punishments doled out by our so called justice department.
Seems that most of you just want revenge without looking at the overall picture or how similar thefts are penalized for others.
That’s okay, have at it... It will not change my mind. I will continue to believe that the White Collar crimes that are being committed daily are far worse than this and should be penalized accordingly.
Hey, the man loved cattle...
(a joke you turkeys)
Can we agree the rustler deserves 99 years as long as corzine gets 900?
You are correct. I think the punishment does not fit the crime. However if you show up on my property in the middle of the night I have to assume you are not there to sell me cookies. I know where I live and you know where you live.
There have been many worse thefts recently in the business world costing billions.
Throw these guys in jail and I’ll turn the key.
I guess he didn’t have the right political connections.
No, actually, I would agree that Corzine should get the 99 years - the rustler about 20 would be fine...(a bit harsh I know but it is not like he killed someone). Corzine steals a billion or so and the rustler steal 200,000. Seems to be just a bit of difference.
“But one cannot condone theft. However, pretty stiff sentence, Texas livin up to its rep.”
Let’s send Jon Corzine to Texas. Maybe they’ll give him 99 years for stealing the millions from MF Global.
Hmm I don’t think either should see outside a cell again but then I’m for the death penalty for all murders that aren’t self defense or accidents
Well, seems most here think that a cattle thief should be either hanged or worse.
I will simply depart since my arguments are being met by deaf ears.
See the first in my list for the likes of them. A lifetime of hard labor would not be enough.
Frankly, what I think would be appropriate for those who steal from the mouths of millions (yes, Virginia, inflation resulting from large-scale white-collar crime takes the food from the mouths of millions) would likely be classified as 'cruel and unusual punishment', even though it has its roots in Western Civilization and would provide a definite disincentive to those pondering such a career move.
If that sounds harsh, so be it. Nambypambyland solutions haven't been working so well, and 'frontier justice' kept the American West a lot less 'wild' than Hollywood or TV would have one believe.
Those robbing millions of billions or trillions of dollars down to those who simply steal grandma's home from her with some fancy paperwork might not be so earnest in their pursuits if they actually thought they might physically suffer as a result.
For now, they are feeling safely insulated from any repercussions. Please note, this isn't our of vengeance. It is the cold calculus of deterrence, dispassionately rendered, not hot-blooded retaliation.
I give them no pity at all!
I don’t think he should be hung but he should be jailed for a long time and I think the punishments haven’t fit the crime for way too long.
In the good old days, when the rangers caught him they would of just found a nice tree and saved the county and state a lot of money on court costs and lawyer fees. But then of course lawyers make laws to enrich lawyers so that aint legal anymore.
