Russia says new U.S. sanctions on Iran unacceptable

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia dismissed new U.S. sanctions targeting Iran's financial and energy sectors as "unacceptable" on Tuesday and said they would hurt the chances of renewing talks with Tehran over its nuclear program.

A sharply worded Russian statement underscored Moscow's longstanding opposition to sanctions beyond those endorsed by the United Nations Security Council, where Russia holds veto power as a permanent member.

"We again underline that the Russian Federation considers such extraterritorial measures unacceptable and contradictory to international law," Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in the statement.

Moscow seems to not understand that their opposition essentially signs Iran's death warrant at the hands of the Israelis.

Which should suit the civilized world just fine.

The last few months Russia has been really feeling their oats again.
They know Obama is their chance to get at the U.S. for the hurts they are convinced we inflicted on them.
They realize they missed their chances under Clinton. So do the Chinese.
This may be a very telling year for us in the world. It is like last call time at a bar.
"Get it now or miss your chance" with a new, more solid president may be the attitude they both take against us.

Paper Tiger. Sanctions such as this never worked; purely a symbolic B.S. gesture. Zer0 has lost the middle east. He is at least indifferent regarding this crisis.
We’ve lost Egypt, Libya and surrendered Iraq. Russia and north Korea are
reiforcing the Nuke capabilities of Iran.

Zer0 won’t stand up to Putin. Maybe Zer0 wishes Iran to have the bomb!
We know he is no friend to Israel.

They are playing with world war.

It always was puzzling to me how the world was stupid enough to stumble into WW1....now here we are almost a century later and again stupidity is on parade. :-(

So the boy king's plans are shot down again?

Sanctions with teeth? Oh, I'm sure of it. But just why didn't we have these hard-biting sanctions years ago?

If this effort ends in a fiasco, as it most certainly will, Israel will be compelled to consult its own interests.

Don't be fooled by an election year stunt designed to make Obama look "strong" on foreign affairs. His "arab spring" policy has been an unmitigated disaster. All he's trying to do at this point is cover that cluster-doodle up.

Don't be fooled.

Interesting choice of words “extraterritorial measures”. I suspect China would be equally against this type of sanction.

Maybe that's what they want.

>>>>>>>>>>Moscow seems to not understand that their opposition essentially signs Iran’s death warrant at the hands of the Israelis.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Moscow is fully aware and really wants it to happend.
Open your eyes. And they want US involved too.

Attack on Iran could drive oil price to a new highs, it could make US busy giving Russia’s diplomacy and military more room in both Central Asia and South America, it could effectively prevent building a nuke by muzzies (after Russia got paid for building a nuke facility), it could prevent support for Russian muzzie uprising from Iran as well.

That is all the present Russian administration wants as soon as it’s domestic popularity shrinking right before election. They are reaching numerous goals at once:
1) killing a budget deficit with growing revenue from more expensive oil exports;
2) a possibility to reduce taxation on individuals and non-commodity businesses due to a written above;
3) playing a nationalist card to steal both communist and far-right votes by poking US in the first place to please senior communist cold warriors and by crushing domestic muzzies who are to lose Iranese money and attention of liberal media which could be busy covering ‘American genocide on Iranese people’ to please anti-immigration and pro-Christian youths.
4) kicking liberal opposition as well pointing out there is no human right model for Russia to follow as soon as US is killing innocents waging another oil war.

To be fair, Russian conservatives are using Iran&US the same way McCain tried to use Georgia&Russia in 2008. I won’t be surprised if it won’t work for them as it didn’t for McCain.

All their fake support for Iran and opposition to sanctions are just to corner Zero and make an attack inevitable. And it won’t be only Israel’s problem, everyone knows it.

Russian invasions of former SSRs are also contradictory to international law. So is the Russian occupation of some of the former territory of Japan.

IMO, neither the Russians nor the Chinese want a nuclear armed Iran any more than the US, EU, S. Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, Jordan, India, and Israel. Only that Russians, Chinese, Europeans & America (main players for now) are pursuing different strategies, walking on eggshells, to get their desired results. After that, alliances (not self-interest) will, most definitely, change & not necessarily for the better.

———Zer0 has lost the middle east.-——

The Messiah never had the middle east.

W upset the apple cart and began a totally new game. Obama et al (the American press) do not play the new game and really do not know there is a new game. They are irrelevantly playing the old game.

Others, those that matter are busily occupied enjoying the new game and pretty much making nice but ignoring him

They are patiently waiting for Obama to be gone and America to get back in the game

In the world, obama is irrelevant
