I cant understand why Newt Gingrich is getting such a pass on his Freddie Mac consulting. He claims to have been a historian for this outfit? FHLMC needs a historian like the U.S.A. needs a Department of Education, like Europe needs a common currency, like like I dunno, like Michelle Obama needs another $12,000 accessory.
I sputtered about this on last weeks Radio Derb:
Newts trying to ju-jitsu the thing, telling us that his experience as a shill for Freddie Mac gave him valuable insider understanding of governmental affairs. Isnt that what we want in a candidate, valuable insider understanding of governmental affairs? Quote from Newt, on the campaign trail in Iowa Wednesday, quote: It reminds people that I know a great deal about Washington. We just tried four years of amateur ignorance, and it didnt work very well. So having someone who actually knows Washington might be a really good thing.

“Excuse me, nitwit - how is it weasel words to say I pasted the quote verbatim from the linked article?”
How was I able to find the REAL quote and you weren’t?
Because I am interested in the truth, not character assasination, that’s why.
“I didnt knowwwwwwwwww....” Hmmmpph.
And you say I am the nitwit. You are dumber than a rock. I made an allegation that is true. You aren’t man enough to admit it. You asked for us poor Newt defenders to punch a hole in your pretzel logic. Consider it done. Put down the shovel. Pick up some balls.
You say that almost with satisfaction. And you seem to be a willing participant to it by slamming Newt as an alternative.
Newt is infinitely better than Romney.
I am a hardcore Tea Party member who was prepared to go all-in to support a Palin candidacy and then switched to Cain when she decided not to run.
I have been following Newt Gingrich for a long time and am dismayed by how many Tea Party members are so easily fooled by him.
Newt Gingrich is not what you think he is.
He is telling you what you want to hear without really meaning it.
He is the ultimate insider.
Why didnt he say anything about the insider trading by Congress?
Newt has a long history. Please do your research. Please do not support him only because he seems smart in the debates. Please do your research.
Newt is totally wrong for the Tea Party.
.
In your imagination.
And you seem to be a willing participant to it by slamming Newt as an alternative.
Oh sure. Blame this field of candidates on me.
Newt is infinitely better than Romney.
I don't see it that way.
My favorite part is how Romney is waiting outside like a creep waits outside bars to pick up the drunk chick needing a lift home.
Bingo. Agenda indeed. And many posters who usually immediately discount anything from NR, now wish to hold it up as authoritative?
And when I told you I cut and pasted it, you continued attacking me as a liar.
BTW, even in the context you provided, Newt is defending his role with Freddie as he denies being a lobbyist. First of all, the good intentions that Newt mentioned about expanding housing were the driving force behind lowering lending standards. That is what happens to good intentions in DC - they get perverted as soon as enough people figure out how to make a lot of money off of them. Newt knows that but apparently has you bamboozled with his spin defending his tenure as a Freddie advisor. You apparently have discarded your natural skepticism of such DC nonsense in your zeal to push Newt as the anti-Romney.
Second of all, I don't believe for one minute that Freddie and all of the other outfits that paid Newt hansomely only paid him for advice. They paid him for influence, something a former speaker has in spades.
You can believe Newt's I-am-not-a-lobbyist BS if you want. I don't. It flies in the face of what we know about how that town operates.
Well said.
My hope is that your prognostication skills hold true to form.
Isn’t there a difference between a campaign contribution and being paid as a consultant? Why are our tax dollars going through Fannie and Freddie to political campaigns?
We can discuss how the consulting fees were handle, the value of Newts advice vs. the payment, etc. But don’t try to tell me he did the same thing that he criticized Obama for. He didn’t.
P.S. - Thanks to jessduntno for busting you on your lying half-quote. Newt is right, every American should be interested in expanding housing opportunities. Aren’t you interested in that? I think every American should be interested in expanding all economic opportunities.
Newt didn’t say it in context of supporting Fannie and Freddie. Expanding housing opportunities and supporting Fannie and Freddie are not the same. (In the long run, they are probably the opposite.)
How long does it take for a true “outsider” to go to Washington and soon become one of them? And how many times has that pipe dream been promised, made a reality, and then fallen back into the same old rut?
Pretty much every time.
How was I able to find the REAL quote and you werent?
“And when I told you I cut and pasted it, you continued attacking me as a liar.”
So, you got no answer? Lazy, stoned, or just stupid? All of the above?
You can cut an paste pictures of Bigfoot, genius.
Hey Dirtboy, in another thread you refused acknowledge the truth about Newt’s first wife. You were still quoting the garbage from the msm regarding his wife having cancer.
Why? I didn't predict anything.
Well, at least an outsider starts with trying to stand up to the process. Even if it is only a year or two of fighting the prevailing winds before they are overwhelmed and co-opted, at least there is some slowing of the march towards insanity.
Odd how after months of their recklessly trash talking all the other candidate, the Newt cult want their guy to get a free pass.
The Newt supporters around here demonstrate all the standard characteristics of Cult of Personality followers.
In response to any criticism of their cult figure, they go into screaming personal attack mode trying to obfuscate or divert.
Apparently anything is allowable to a Newt-bot as long as it prevents even the slightest hint of reality penetrating their daily worshiping at the shrine of St. Newt.
Liar. Show me one time where I said anything about Newt serving his wife with divorce papers in the hospital. My comments were about Newt having affairs, which is a known fact.
You trolls can't even get your own facts right in your zeal to attack anyone who dares point out Newt's many, many issues.
I notice you can’t be bothered to respond to my point that even if I take the entire quote from Newt, it is still problematic. I guess you just have to bite my ankles because that is all you’ve got.
I wish a person who has shown us those qualities were running. I would support them. Instead, we have Newt.
Ramrod a balanced budget? None of the budgets in this time were balanced, save through smoke and mirrors.
Create jobs? I thought we all agreed that the Feds cannot create jobs.
Cut government jobs? They did drop by about 8% over that time, but I don’t recall much that he did to actually push it.
Cut welfare - he gets a star for supporting that idea.
Kick ass and take names? Nope. Not even close. He compromised away most of his advantages. To be fair, most of that group of GOP establishment pretending to be conservatives did the same.
Do you deny that Newt's quote was an effort on his part to defend taking a lot of money from that insitution?
Do you deny that Newt has become rich playing the part of the Beltway insider?
Do you deny that if this story broke and it was about a retired Dem instead of Newt, you'd be posting about how it proves how corrupt Freddie is - and how corrupt the Dem receipient of that money is as well? And how it shows how incestuous and inbred the town is?
Nah, SCREAM LIAR AT DIRTBOY! HE'S THE SCOUNDREL!
