(Reuters) - Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has roared into the lead of the Republican nominating race, brushing off concerns about his work for a troubled housing company, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed.

Twenty-four percent of registered Republican voters would support the former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives if the contest were held now, an increase of 8 percentage points from roughly a week ago, according to the poll, which was conducted on November 18-19.

Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who has stayed near the top of most polls, garnered support from 22 percent of Republicans, slumping 6 percentage points from the last survey conducted on November 10-11 and ending up essentially tied with Gingrich.

Despite allegations of questionable business ties, Gingrich is the latest favorite of conservative Republicans eager for an alternative to Romney, whom they see as too moderate.

Yeah, he’s just posting spam over and over again. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he’s probably just a troll.

The same spam on all the other threads too. He must bounce around to all the headers he sees from posts to him, then picks any one of several genreric anti-Newt posts he has available.

He did the same thing on the Palin and Perry threads. And most all of them to #1. You have to admit, this is really, really creepy stuff here!

What’s the conservative argument for why Gingrich’s work with Fannie and Freddie is not a problem?

“You really are one of the worst posters I’ve ever encountered on FR. You barely know how to use the reply system which makes it difficult to figure out who and what you are talking about, the stuff you post is regularly hostile and filled with venom towards others, and you constantly post spam trash over and over again.”

Longbow,

Good job. I doubt that I have read a more accurate description of this raging mental midget and it’s idiotic antics.

I don't know if you call this RINOism or what, but you could look here:

The Newt Gingrich, Al Sharpton, Arne Duncan "Education Tour" to promote Obama's education policies."

See them live! Newt and Al!

And this was in 2009, well after the whole world knew what an epic failure Barack Obama was and, likely, after Newt had gotten the bug to run for President.

I always thought pissant was kinda that way (attention grabber).

I don’t know what John Boy’s prob is, but he’s turned his venom toward Newt and away from Perry for the moment and that’s relief.

Palin has hit the nail on the head. Corrupt politicians cannot lead, because they are corrupt. If you have skeletons, you are shackled. Gingrich is as corrupt as they come. Do I hear any supporters denying this here? So why is getting consideration? Gingrich’s mind is awash in “ideas” and “solutions” and to think that he wouldn’t want to “do” things when takes the reins of power is beyond imagination. He is the very defintion of a Republican progressive.

Can't say I'd go this far (yet) on Mr. Gingrich. But he certainly is everything you'd think of in a stereotypical politician and penultimate D.C. insider.

I've said I'll vote for the Newt if he becomes the nominee and I would be happy to see him as VP as well.

But, hey conservatives! What's your answer to this question, for example:

What, in your view, does it say about Gingrich's political instincts (his "gut" as opposed to "intellectual" understanding of conservatisms) that he did work for Freddie Mac?

Are you just brushing this off as having no meaning or what?

I suspect it’s nothing but a lib troll with it’s only purpose being to disrupt. It has kind of a Hockey Mask Guy approach to every post it makes.

It’s over the top insults and lies, reek of the stench of fear... it knows it has already lost, yet it fights to quiet all others.

In the end it won’t matter, because whatever else it supports is going to fail and it knows it already has.

Newt is smart enough to at least know that when we tell him not to compromise with the left just to be getting along he dam sure better do it,will he? I don't know.

Your post is right on. You are asking EXACTLY the right questions.

Will conservatives have any leverage over a President Gingrich? I don't know and that's not a good thing.

Look. His "reaching out to Democrats" goes back a long way. But his two most colorful examples happened recently, after the Tea Party movement was already the conservative zeitgeist, and likely after Gingrich had already decided to run for President: the global warming thing with Pelosi in 2008 and the "Education Tour" with Sharpton in 2009.

What conservative in his right mind, or even an "intellectual conservative" who is smart enough to know he "must" pander to the conservative movement, tries to gain street-cred with Dems by doing those things?

Sure, Newt has said the couch thing with Pelosi was "dumb."

Many conservatives just accept that at face value.

My question is, since Newt is so smart and politically savvy, how come he didn't realize that was "dumb" until conservatives punished him for it? Same with calling Ryan's plan "right-wing social engineering," etc.

Just last Monday, Gingrich told voters in Iowa that his first act as President would be to reach out to Democrats.

Is this a politically benign phrase when Newt says it?

And for everyone who is supporting Newt because they are ga-ga over his debate performances, the fact is that Attack Newt won't be able to live at the White House. He'll have to have his Press Secretary try to do that.

Moreover, When Newt says “reach out to the Dems,” we all know that he knows what we know, that is, that the Dems INCLUDE THE MSM. Um, so where does that leave those who voted for Newt because he whupped up on Maria Bartiromo?
