(Reuters) - Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has roared into the lead of the Republican nominating race, brushing off concerns about his work for a troubled housing company, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed.
Twenty-four percent of registered Republican voters would support the former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives if the contest were held now, an increase of 8 percentage points from roughly a week ago, according to the poll, which was conducted on November 18-19.
Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who has stayed near the top of most polls, garnered support from 22 percent of Republicans, slumping 6 percentage points from the last survey conducted on November 10-11 and ending up essentially tied with Gingrich.
Despite allegations of questionable business ties, Gingrich is the latest favorite of conservative Republicans eager for an alternative to Romney, whom they see as too moderate.

yep, the media was ignoring Cain even when he was leading in all the polls.
The media is peeing their pants scared of a possible Cain win, and so are the republican insiders.
Go CAIN!
Palin has hit the nail on the head. Corrupt politicians cannot lead, because they are corrupt. If you have skeletons, you are shackled. Gingrich is as corrupt as they come. Do I hear any supporters denying this here? So why is getting consideration? Gingrich’s mind is awash in “ideas” and “solutions” and to think that he wouldn’t want to “do” things when takes the reins of power is beyond imagination. He is the very defintion of a Republican progressive.
My take is that we really don't have any good candidates. There is no Ronald Reagan II, no Marco Rubio, no Sarah Palin running this time around.Probably won't be either.
We have a bunch of wannbes who all have potential of varying degrees.
Of the bunch Newt may be the smartest.
Does he always do the right thing? Hardly.
Can we beat him up? Light a fire under his ass and get him to do the right thing?
That is the 64k question.I say yes,maybe.
Newt is smart enough to at least know that when we tell him not to compromise with the left just to be getting along he dam sure better do it,will he? I don't know.
Will the rest do the right thing? Do the rest have the political expertise that Newt has?
It's a crap shoot.
Choose your candidate.
When he becomes President, you have no power. How, exactly, do you “light a fire under his tail?” And if you can do that, why didn’t you “light a fire under Bush’s tail?”
I think all these polls are media created bull droppings.
Mittens will be the nominee.
I will not vote for him EVER..
So standard Newt supporter SOP: Diversion, obfuscation and personal attack.
And then you wonder why people are suspicion about this PR cult of personality you are attempting to manufacture around Newt?
hmmmm looks like you sharpened your axe before you ground it. I was 100 percent for Cain, even through the allegations (I happen to think they are bogus)....UNTIL he offhandedly mentioned that he would not attack Iran at this time. Wrong answer Mr. Cain.
Mr. Cain would be a foreign policy disaster for the US as well as for Israel. Newt would not. That for me is the difference.
...who is so politically clueless he wouldn't understand more than half the issues on your list.
No thanks. Ignorance does not make one an authentic conservative. Cain doesn't possess enough knowledge about the issues to be President. He struggles to even remember what his Libya policy is. "I've got all this stuff twirling around in my head" is not a sufficient answer to policy questions - nor is "we need a leader, not a reader". Herman will not be the nominee.
Taking the body of your written work here and then watching that clip... I just keep playing it over and over again and laughing my arse off...
Face it.... You are Chip Diller...
“President Newt could unite with the solid core of conservatives in the house and force the senate to go along with real changes in our fiscal situation.”
Newt is a big government statist. When did he ever cut any spending? Obviously not when he was in office... And after he left he only lobbied for more mandates and bailouts.
Last I checked there were still some conservatives in this race.
Run Sarah Run!
I’ll be voting for Newt.
Basically it’s going to come down to which of the candidates suck less.
Why in the world do you think nominating the one candidate the 0 Campaign PR machine can credibly paint as part of the DC Establishment in the minds of independent voters is going to work?
With the vast majority of Americans angry at professional politicians of both parties, why would you want to nominate the one candidate an incumbent President can position himself as the outsider against?
