Romney and Cain took some well-deserved shots at the occupiers today too but heres Gingrich ramping it up with a base-pleasing tea-party contrast. Between soundbites like this and the occasional roundhouse at debate moderators, Im starting to believe those Rasmussen numbers.
Just one question: Is a guy who got paid big bucks to push expensive new government health-care programs really going to emerge as the tea-party candidate? If you missed Timothy Carneys report on Gingrichs work for the pharmaceutical lobby while Bush was pushing his Medicare prescription-drug expansion, read it now. Quote:
While the Bush White House and the Republican congressional leadership supported a bill creating a new entitlement for all seniors, Washington conservatives mostly opposed the bill. Gingrich went around Washington at the time plumping for the bill to free-market groups and activists.

I’m hoping that if he is on the ticket in either spot, that he is the Newt of 90-95. At the Florida Tea Party Convention, I asked him what he could say to convince skeptical tea party folks that he was “the good Newt” again and not “the bad Newt.” He gave a decent answer. History will show if he means it or not.
He’s always been an enigma - very very good when he’s good and some really strange moments off the deep end. If nothing else, he would do the country a service if he could have about three very very good debates versus Obama.
There’s good news and lots of bad news about Newt. But if we are going to base the election purely on one’s ability to debate and zing, he’s the best.
Perry has a better record than Romney and Newt, except at debates. Perry is a good news/bad news guy, too. I like Perry’s reform position paper.
Really?

Newt has self control problems centered around the seven deadly sins. All of them. :)
very sorry to dissapoint you but no spinning here. I am very aware of the changes in the earth over time. Sorry that you arent. It has and always will change.

The anecdote was repeated ad nauseam when Gingrich became House speaker in 1995. Then it was repeated ad nauseam
when he filed for divorce with his second wife, Marianne, in 1999.
The story came up again in the mid-2000s when Gingrich was openly mulling a 2008 presidential bid.
In 2007, when Gingrich told James Dobson in a radio interview that he had in the 1990s cheated
on his second wife (with his current wife, Callista), several stories about the admission also noted the 1980 hospital encounter.
If Gingrich is really serious about a 2012 candidacy, expect the hospital story to stay with him throughout the campaign.

What a debate that would be. Gingrich vs OJerko.
Newt has already done more for the conservative cause in this country than most men will ever do. He's already a hero. The questioning of whether or not he's perfect is stupid. Has he made poor judgements? You betcha. Has he done anything in his personal life that disqualifies him from being a great president? No.
Are other Republican candidates also good candidates? Yes, especially if the standard is Zero. I would be a better president that Zero. My next door neighbor would be a better. My Aunt Floozy would be better. Any American Citizen who loves his country would be far better than the idiot we elected last time.
Imagine Newt as president, with a conservative house and senate. It's a pretty thing.
Even Sarah Palin lauds Newt. She has had higher praise for Newt than for any of the other candidates. She knows that the media did a horrendous hit job on Newt and she knows what that's like. Some of you on this site believe the media's version of Newt. I never fell for it. I watched them tear down a great man while the Republican party stood by and did their usual nothing.
You small minded freepers, who are doing you best to assist the media in the destruction of Newt, are not conservatives and should go read a good book. I suggest the New Testament with emphasis on the gospels. You bible thumping freepers who sit in judgement of Newt's sins, cast the beam out of thine own eye for a change.
I don’t think he is a liberal!!!!
I don’t I kinda like him he has a lot of good idea’s!
At the moment his “higher intelligence” is showing.
At least he is lifting the log politically so to speak and all kinds of creepy crawly critters are running for cover.
He won’t get my support because of his tainted past but he is causing something to stir.
Do you want me to repeat it for you, newt has never had an ideal in his life.
If the guy who shot at the White House had spent a week in a Tea Party camp (like he did at OccupyDC) the media would be doing a live 24/7 feed outside the Capital, asking when there would be Congressional hearings into the Tea Party's attempt at assassinating 0bama.
I’m not even 100% against Newt, but people like you are going to force us here at FR to start shining more light on Newt’s record.
Unfortunately there are lots of 'people like you' commenting on FR and elsewhere. At times comments are nothing more than irrational personal attacks, and often they are slanted to push an agenda. Same thing is happening on Twitter and other blogs. IMO, Cain fans have now become more offensive than Paul fans. I am sure you will disagree, and that is ok. I also expect it to get worse and I expect it will impact the support of the candidate who wins the Republican primary.
I hardly need your permission to disagree with such a pointless and downright moronic post, but thanks anyway.
I guess I'm supposed to accuse you of some kind of idolatry for refusing to discuss the glaring faults of Newt Gingrich. That's what hacks like you and your little friend lying about Newt's global warming record would do, right?
You proved my point, and that is sad.
You don't have a coherent point yet contend that you do. However, I find it more amusing than sad.
