2013 Ford Mustang gallops up to 200 mph (650hp)

Yet another argument for the contention that we’re living in a golden era for American muscle cars arrives with the 2013 Ford Mustang, which will sport a brace of tech and styling updates across its line — including the most powerful V8 engine sold by any automaker in the world. How much trouble could you get in with a 200-mph ‘Stang?

The original pony car has survived 46 years only through annual tweaking between major redesigns, and offering a broad enough model range to lure in everyone from high-schoolers to professional drag racers. Thanks to the competition with the revived Chevrolet Camaro, there’s more muscle in muscle cars than ever before; today’s base V6 Mustang has more grunt than the V8 flashed seven years ago.

“I’d rather have a 1964!!!”

I read somewhere that Ford is cutting metal for that generation body style again. But you have to come up with your own chasis, engine, etc. to put it on.

If I were really, really rich, I’d hunt down and buy the Challenger from Vanishing Point.

“The BOSS is live axle and is destroying everything - even on the most winding tracks like Laguna Seca.”

I have heard about the success of the new Mustangs on the track and the Handling of the Boss.

I was more referring to the marketing of my ‘03 SVT as a “muscle car”. I even had a poster of it next to a classic 60s Mustang referring to the rebirth of the American muscle car.

The ‘03-’03 Mustang SVT Cobra IRS used CV joints like a front wheel drive car, instead of half shafts with stronger U-joints like the corvette. I replaced the Goodyear F1 rear tires with BF Goodrich TA/KDWS tires. That got rid of the wheel hop, but I did not dare use a drag radial.

I made less than 10 dragstrip passes in that car, and the IRS developed a clunk not long after. A lot of guys broke their CV joints. It was cheaper to put a live axle in those cars than buy all of the aftermarket IRS parts to strengthen them.

I traded it on an ‘03 Mach 1 with an automatic transmission and live axle better suited for bracket drag racing and never looked back.

Most people need to put those dollars to better use,

This car is certainly not for "most people."

.

Yup - Same Shelby Mustang GT500

I told you yesterday I was sure the best price would be close to $30 less than that one on eBay

(and over $150 less than a 1/24 Danbury Mint ‘68 Mustang GT in Highland Green - the Steve McQueen “BULLITT” movie car)

He is attempting to get big bucks on eBay for an ‘Eleanor’ Mustang GT500E that is black instead of dark silver

It looks good against a light BG

But $33 less on another website ain’t too shabby

.

my days of building or restoring autos are over, back in the day (70s) I restored a 55 Chevy pickup. A lot of work, more than I bargained for but it was a fun ride when I finished but it really wasn't what I would call a professional job!!!
