Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was asked a simple question by the editorial board of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: "So you agreed with President Obama on Libya, or not?" The response, nearly five minutes long, is painful to watch:

Freddie Mac contributed to Cain’s senate race in Georgia. As for advice to freddie and fannie..newt said they did not take his advice. He was a paid consultant..we still have free enterprise in this country. Ryan’s budget had a lot of positives but came down a little rough on military retirees...and of course Cain likes TARP and all the empowerment zones...now, Newt wants one in Detroit like Cain but for 10 yrs...Cain is more extreme in his plan for such zones...I dont like it at all...

The only thing awful was the pause. He collected his thoughts and give an incisive answer.

I like Cain. He seems like a wonderful man and leader. But watching his Libya answer was painful. That does not disqualify him from becoming president, but he should be practicing reciting his positions on the major issues of the day. This was not a gotcha or trick question. I could have answered it better if asked, and I am not running for anything. Time for some more studying Mr. Cain.

The video goes well beyond painful – Cain is obviously way over his head
running for the Presidency. His 999 plan is like the sand flowing through the
hour glass, soon all motion stops and the sand settles to the bottom which is
where Cain is headed.

Cain is like a man stuck in quicksand – the more he thrashes around the
quicker he sinks. In the case of Cain, the more he talks the dumber he sounds.

I’ll say one thing, if he debated Obama it would be very interesting – one fool
without his teleprompter trying to outwit a man without a clue.

What blunder. He answered it well. Unlike this answer from Perry on what he’d do with a 3AM wakeup call telling him Al Qaeda got Pakistan’s nukes.

Yes, as I said, an individual EPA employee named Spencer Nissen donated to Cain. Notice how, in the link you provided, “EPA” is listed under the column “Employer/Occupation”? That means that the EPA was Spencer Nissen’s employer, not that the EPA itself gave to Cain.

Same thing for Freddie Mac - an individual Freddie Mac employee (David Munford) gave to Cain, not Freddie Mac itself.

Bush made decisions pretty fast after he was told about the attack on America. I dont know the time frame.

I guess I missed them. What are you referring to? That he stopped reading to school children? That he decided to fly around the country for several hours? Maybe grounding all aircraft except for military and Saudi? Ordering speech writers into action? What?

Got that right. It does help reinforce what one pretty much knew would happen though.

Libya 2011, c/o Barack Obama.

Is Tehran 1979, c/o Jimmy Carter.

How did that one turn out? First our hostages, then the fundamentalist regime. Now nukes.

I like Cain a lot.

In the real world, competence trumps ideology. Look how the soviets ideology worked?

It is. It really is. And it really just makes me mad most of all. I could care less about the “scandal,” but I do want someone who can formulate these answers decisively. For the most part Cain has been doing this ...but this ...this was horrid.

It’s terrible for Cain, but mostly, it’s terrible for Americans and for those that support him. We NEED a flat tax system ...badly. But we also need a basically competent president. I suppose he’d be able to lead ...but if he was so clueless, would it really be HIM doing the leading? I don’t know.

Note to presidential candidates: a LOT of us really are putting our faith in you. STUDY UP, dammit!!!
