I've read that it was Jackie Kennedy who got the Camelot stuff started and the press ran with it. What surprised me was to find that the allusions to Camelot didn't begin until after Kennedy's death. I guess because I remember hearing records of Robert Goulet singing his Camelot role years earlier, and I assumed it must have started at the same time.
