ATLANTA, Ga. - Herman Cain, whose campaign could use some redemption in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal, told a crowd of young Republicans on Saturday that God convinced him to run for president and that he "prayed and prayed and prayed" about it.
The Republican contender made no mention of the allegations from former subordinates at the National Restaurant Association. But his comments here were accented with more than the usual references to his faith and his calling to politics.
"I prayed and prayed and prayed. I'm a man of faith, I had to do a lot of praying for this one, more praying than I'd ever done before in my life," Cain told a crowd of more than 100 at the Young Republican National Federation, an event hosted by the Georgia Young Republicans at the Westin Peachtree Plaza. "And when I finally realized that it was God saying that this is what I needed to do, I was like Moses: 'You've got the wrong man, Lord. Are you sure?'"
Once he made the decision to run, the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza said, "I did not look back. And one of the misperceptions that some people have (is) that I'm not in this to win it. I'm in this to win it, or I wouldn't be in it! I'm not going anywhere!"
Cain has repeatedly said in recent days he will stay in the race in spite of the swirl of accusations that have tarnished his campaign and halted his upward momentum in national polls. Four women who worked at the NRA claim that Cain sexually harassed them, and one of them, Sharon Bialek of Chicago, said he roughly grabbed her in a parked car in 1997 and propositioned her for sex.
With a Republican debate focused on foreign policy on tap for Saturday evening, Cain talked about the need to replace a "foggy foreign policy" with a reincarnation of the Reagan doctrine of "peace through strength and clarity." He also said he would "stop giving money to our enemies."
The debate among the eight major Republican candidates is at 8 p.m. and is hosted by National Journal and CBS News.
He said God wanted him to run, NOT to win.
Big difference.

” Being led by God has nothing to do with ego.”
Correct!
” “For Ronald Reagan, spiritual faith was not something to hang in the closet upon taking political office. As governor he had often relied on prayer for guidance, and after entering the White House he felt he needed prayer as much as ever. And politics, he held, needed faith. He frequently invoked George Washington’s aphorism that religion and morality were “indispensable supports” to political prosperity.
He also felt that America and Americans needed the Bible. The Bible, argued Reagan, held all the answers. “I’m accused of being simplistic at times,” he said more than once. “But within that single Book are all the answers to all the problems that face us.” As Ben Elliott remembers, it was a line that many found over-the-top, some White House staff among them. Nonetheless, Reagan believed it devoutly. When the president shared the thought before the National Religious Broadcasters convention, Elliott recalled, it “brought the house down.” The audience responded with a standing ovation, and Reagan was delighted.
He saw God as the preeminent source of wisdom and moral guidance, the fount “from whom all knowledge springs.” “When we open ourselves to Him,” the president told a group of students in December 1983, “we gain not only moral courage but also intellectual strength.” “
Worth repeating.....
A reading from the Book of ZOT!
It is said that for many risings of the sun and moon, in an era long behind us, did the old wise man search the lands of Asgard to find the deeper truths. In his quest for knowledge, he traveled many leagues, covered countless furlongs and soothed his calloused feet riding atop a braying ass.
The Book of Zot! records many such such travels and travails of those who have gone before. And in it’s voluminous pages there are bound to be similar, of somewhat skewed events. Witness the tale of NewInTexas. He, like the man of old, sought knowledge, and traveled many miles throughout the lands of Asgard. But there my brethren, our story takes another path, for NIT chose to bray mightily and alone in his assitude.
And he is not the first, nor will he be the last to twist the tales of old to suit his liberal purpose. He, like the fell troll jla who so recently met swift and merciful digital demise at the sword and claw of the Kittith Vikings, did mock the faith and belief of others, misspaking their words and intent thereof, like the vile liberals that infest the Promised and Corrupt lands likeith and with purpose of lice.
And like many faithful before him who traded their sense and reason for the carnal mental pleasures of the Plague Stupidicus, did his diseased mind ‘reason’ that highly skilled ballistics analysts could better serve the realm in a capacity beyond their ability.
Brethren, the fell Plague of Stupidicus is a vile thing. It robs brethren of the most basic logic and instills in them a sense of pride borne of gossamer - one that cries out for Kittith intervention...for the behelmed bundles of fuzzy Freudian fear are well versed in the ways of curing the mental deficiencies of falling Freepith!
And so it came to pass that upon sensing this disturbance in the tranquil force of Asgard, did they of tooth and claw rearrange the thought and other processes of the disturbed, mercifully and with the mighty Hammer of Thor, not Thorazine!
And the fell troll didith rantith and rave (without the benefit of loud and obnoxious music and drug fuled dancing), proclaiming his kinship in battles of a long past Asian realm. But the Kittith did sense that deep within his fractured mind, the remaining fragments of sanity, and their sensitive ears did hear them cry out “Slay me mighty Kittith!, and put to rest my tortured bits and bytes, for I have indeed become a moron!”
For the Kittith do sense these things...
And as Moljinr cleft the trollean skull in twain, releasing the remaining sense to it’s Valhallian reward, the cute and fuzzy little Valkries didith descend with the Broom of Great Justice to again sweep away the bad parts to fell Trollhenge. There they remain to this day in the Great Porcelain Receptacle, mere Kittith litter of the clumping variety.
Book of ZOT; Chapter 6, Verse 1-9 “Poop! I did it again!”

LOL!!
Well...all the girlies say I’m pretty fly for a white guy ;)
(With apologies to The Offspring)
You’re welcome, cutie pie.
Thank You. I’m still trying to get used to the site. I’m a Canadian working in the USA and understand the dangers of socialism first hand.
Severence package, not settlement. Significant difference.
Infallible politicians are playing with fire by invoking God in this age of compromising with cultural marxism (Instituted throughout all facets of society right now) which is diametrically opposed to God's ways.
Look at all the Kings, especially the "apple of God's eyes" that use God to claim power, then corrupted by power; society is punished along with the leader. Every Cain supporter needs to hold his feet to the fire and not excuse compromise in the name of politics and "winning" elections.
Remember, Bush was "only playing (Political) poker" when he compromised. Well look where that got us, more debt, corporations use to being bailed out, and an abomination of the highest Biblical order as a Commander-in-Chief.
(*sigh*) It's amazing the stuff that God gets blamed for.
In general, people totally miss what that phrase is about. Roughly it means “I am a person of faith. I have thought about this, I have prayed about this and I have come to the conclusion that I’m going to run. The inference is that if God didn’t want it, said prayer would have led him to a different conclusion.
It does NOT mean that God/Jesus appeared to him/spoke directly to him and said “Run”.
Now as for public perception, people either accept people of faith as leaders/Presidents or they do not. The language POF use is part and parcel of that faith. It’s up to the public to accept or reject it. Because if a person actually believes it, he/she isn’t going to say whatever makes people happy for their votes.
And the politicians that Cain/whoever would have to work with can deal with it. They don’t have a choice once the people say “We want him” or whatever person of faith.
“And when I finally realized that it was God saying that this is what I needed to do, I was like Moses: ‘You’ve got the wrong man, Lord. Are you sure?’”
Well, I am a big fan of Moses. You think Cain is going to lead his people, but fail to reach the Promised Land of the Presidency because of his past sins?
Hes not Joan of Ark, ya know.
Not yet at least. He does speak in the 3rd person a lot.
Politicians do this all the time in order to appease. Obama said he was inspired by (some) god(s) in a lot of Christian Churches when he was campaigning. The guy even claims to be a Christian who, by default, is led by Christ in the first place.
When politicians invoke God, the statement of faith better be shown by their actions or they are just very weak and often are frauds.
You misunderstood my intent. I said “In general” because many people have immediately equated Cain’s and other candidate’s use of the phrase with a fanatical interpretation/use...and gone off on multi-page anti-religous tangents about it leading to some insane flame wars.
I did not refer or mean you personally. Thus the “In general” prefix. I totally agree actions better back up their words.
