Some public figures have labeled the Mormon church as a cult. Most recently, ABC News reported that Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress applied such a label in an interview following a political gathering where Jeffress introduced a political rival to Mormon candidate Mitt Romney.
Use of such a term to describe Mormonism is highly offensive to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cult carries the connotation of dangerous, even violent groups whose beliefs are irrational and whose practices are immoral and lawless (Koresh and the Branch Davidians, Heavens Gate, Aum Shinrikyo, and The Peoples Temple are all prominent examples) . The term cannot be applied to Mormons unless it is so broadly defined that its use could be applied to virtually any religious body.
Like racist language, the use of the word cult to describe a religion usually tells us very little about the religion, but a great deal about the person using the word. In short, it tells us only that the person using the label cult doesnt like the religion in question, or thinks it is illegitimate. Bryan Wilson, a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and a noted sociologist of minority religions noted:

No, Ma'am; we are lesser muckety mucks. We are known as ELDER's; a MUCH better title than muck; don't you think?
It SOUNDED ok when I read it out loud.
I'm sorry; but I do not quite understand.
Is that ONE personage or TWO?
Ah...
#33 IS starting to make sense to you!
So like the ancient Greeks and Roman’s you are a polytheist, you believe in more than one God.
You get the point!
{{{tee-hee}}} Let’s make a new rule that homonyms negate typos. I like this idea. ;*)
Your second sentence says it all and that is why you are not Christian. The word T-r-i-n-i-t-y does not appear in the Bible but the concept is glaringly apparent. It absolutely is not a man-made concoction. If you could just turn away from your “book” and read the Bible with no other influence but that of the Holy Spirit, you may be surprised. I’m willing to bet you have never had the Bible in your hand without your accompanying handbook/translation in the other.
As for the Bible, where are all your Book of Mormon revelations found in the Bible?
Saundra, I know this upsets you and I am sincerely sorry for that. You have been trained for these responses because those ahead of you knew your “faith” would be strongly challenged.
I also know you truly believe what you say. It is likely you won’t change your heart. No man is judge but there is the Judge and you will face Him some day. I pray the truth finds you before that day arrives.
ome on this site would condemn an entire group of believers in one fell swoop while the key is that every man/woman must work out his/her own salvation in fear and trembling.
Oh really now SD, mormonism throughout its ENTIRE history has condemned Christianity and does so even today. Tsk, tsk SD, saying falsehoods - woops all those former sins have been added back to your account, you must not have repented. Or are you repudiating your bom and D&C.
But then you also ignore the bible too:
Ro 11:6* And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
Mormonism is a religion of fleshly works, work hard but you never know when you have done EVERYTHING you could do.
Plus you have to have a husband willing to call you past the veil. Better hope he is not a fickle god or you may be pawned off to some other god for his harem.
IOW, you're "right" in what you're stating here...
...and Elsie's "wrong?"
Can you prove that this faith conviction of yours is right?
No?
(I didn't think so)
And yet you open your yappers with words that convict your attempt to be right -- minus any proof
Wrongo, Colo.
Proof isn't part of the equation. That's why we call it faith. The Bible makes all clear to anyone who seeks truth when reading it. Since it is the Word of God, it is the closest thing to proof there is and plenty enough for the faithful.
There is only one right. I'm not talking about denominational differences. I am talking about believing that Jesus, the True God, took our sin upon Himself and died that we may enter Heaven. It's not complicated and all the bells, whistles and gimmicks the non-Christian sects add on are just that; bells, whistles, and gimmicks that have nothing to do with the teaching of our Lord. I mean seriously, how can a God-fearing individual believe that he too will someday be a god. Just ask a Mormon man.
There is only one Truth. Islam is wrong, Hinduism is wrong, Buddhism is wrong, Jehovah's Witnesses are wrong, Mormons are wrong, et al. It's not my place to claim this; it is God's and His holy Word.
Non-believers don't like it but they need to go to the Source to find the Truth.
“So again I say Jesus Christ is my Advocate with the Father and I am glad for this - that you are not my judge.”
Is your Jesus the created mormon Jesus, who later became a god...
or The Christian Jesus who is neither created nor made, but eternally God?
WHICH SAUNDRA?
No sweetie, Harry Reid is a temple mormon, so he is NOT a MINO. And then there is that really big BYU award for being a fine example of lds, he received......
Unless they coach at Penn State.
What baffles me, is how I can be THINKING one word and after reading what I've typed, it is NOT that word at ALL!
The Trinity is a man-made concept and the word is not found in the Bible.
I worship Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.
1,2,3 - TWICE!
The right hand doesn't know what the left hand typed!
Sigh... yet anOTHER APOSTATE that reFUSES to admit the PROOF of a burning in the busom.
--MormonDude(What hope IS there for YOU??)
True; but... if there is CONFLICTING evidence that SHOWS that certain 'scripture' to be IMPOSSIBLE; THEN what is 'faith' called?
Why would you WORSHIP some NON-personage that OBVIOUSLY isn't WORTHY enough to receive a BODY of FLESH like the other two?
And I dont care about his religion
***
Really
Than why did you go after the LDS speaking unkindly of their faith, it is one thing to go after Romney but you sided with the anti-Mormons openly on FR.
Even the mainstream may disagree with the Mormons/LDS but they allow others to have their belief or understanding of the word.
The LDS are NOT joined at the hip we are all in depended thinkers sometimes we agree with each other and sometimes we don’t.
In the end we get the government we deserve if we act like good righteous people the Lord is able to open the door for righteous leader and if we dismantle the commandments even by turning a blind eye to God and Prayer (allowing abortion, SSM, enmity, etc) we will continue to get unrighteous leaders like Obama.
As I see unfold in the earth there is a restoration going on to restore those Godly ways back all across the land it is the seperation of the wheat and tears.
Onward Christian soldiers continue to pressforward with the Will of God.
All faiths are joining together (not as in one particular doctrine) but in doing the will of the Lord.
Peace as the Lord gives!
