College football is a big business. I only really understood how big when I toured Beaver Stadium in 2010. To be a top tier football power you’ve got to be able to negotiate the recruiting sewer. Paterno may have been one of the most ethical coaches, but the operative word is “most. I don’t doubt for a second there have recruiting violations at Penn State. But Paterno, and no doubt some alumni, have been very successful at not getting caught. It was a PR masterstroke when Joe turned himself for a minor preseason coaching infraction at the beginning of this season.
Paterno and the University have packaged Paterno well. For me, the dawn came on Paterno when I found out Sandusky was permitted unfettered access to Penn State facilities after Paterno and the University knew of Sandusky’s perversion.
I’m asking myself some really disgusting questions right now. Any moral institution would have dropped Sandusky like a hot potato immediately upon credible suspicion. As far as I can tell that was about 1998. Yet Sandusky continued to have access. Why? What else is yet to be discovered here?
What do we know? Spanier is an outspoken gay and lesbian supporter. His academic discipline is sociology. On the face of it I find that an odd choice for a university president in and of itself. Usually college presidents are people who had successful academic and business careers or they come from the humanities ranks.
We know Spanier enabled the first gay fraternity at Penn State. We know that he allowed a campus women’s group to erect a “Tent of Consent”. Ostensibly students were encouraged to go behind a screen and explore each other for two minutes. Very classy and who was watching the clock? We know Spanier also allowed this group to hold a “Cuntfest”. Very classy. The stated purpose was to empower women. Ahem.
So Spanier is the Board of Trustee choice for president. And he’s the guy the Board supports while he’s knowingly and deliberately attacking American morality.
Here’s a what if with regard to the serial predator Sandusky and Penn State: What if he’s allowed access because he serves another or other adult male(s) need for sex with little boys? In other words he’s passing the boys around. I can think of no other logical explanation.
Been thinking about Paterno. There is no way he could not have known what was going on after the 1998 incident when Sandusky “retired” with emeritus status. I include the very great possibility that Sandusky was pimping the kids to big PSU donars. Maybe even to the big cahuna himself in Old Main.
Sandusky used Penn State football facilities for his foundation and abusing the kids the foundation was supposed to be helping.
Paterno must have bumped into Sandusky occasionally and Sandusky was attending PSU regualar season and bowl games with young boys.
A moral adult person would question the behavior. Given what Paterno knew about Sandusky the bells should have been ringing. Especially in light of what appears to be an epidemic of child abuse in America and the world today.
Joe is up to his eyeballs in this scandal and should be charged as an accessory.
I’m confident Joe and all those who’ve participated in and enabled Sandusky’s perversion are not sleeping well these days. Without a doubt Sandusky will rat them all out for leniency. He’s the key to identifying all the victims, who knew about his activities and those to whom he may have pimped out boys. In the Grand Jury report Sandusky’s wife is said to have tried to contact one of the boy’s families—prior to the grand jury convening. Sandusky was trying to do the same. It appears she may be complicit in this as well. The Sanduskys had no biological children. They adopted. I wonder if they were abused as well.
It just gets dirtier and dirtier.
