Kobalt Tools 500
Welcome to the Chase for the Sprint Cup #9
Patriotic Pre-Race Festivities to Honor Active Military and Veterans
Phoenix International Raceway and NASCAR fans in attendance for Sundays Kobalt Tools 500 will celebrate Veterans Day by paying tribute to the generations of men and women who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during the pre-race show beginning at noon on November 13.
The spectacular pre-race show will also include:
· 36 soldiers (nine each from Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines) will be honored in the Bryan Grandstand as they march down toward the track, waving American Flags
· An aerial entrance to the track by the Arizona Skyhawks carrying the American Flag
· Turn 2 display of a 200-foot American Flag presented by Arizona Project ChalleNGe
· National Anthem by Pentagon-awarded Armed Forces Entertainers of the Year, Catchpenny
· Flyover by four F-16s from the 62nd Fighter Squadron out of Luke Air Force Base
· Luke Air Force Base Honor Guard
· Moment of silence to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom prior to the National Anthem
A new paint scheme designed using photos of Vietnam Veterans - submitted by soldiers and their families through a contest sponsored by the U.S. Army - will be featured on Ryan Newman's No. 39 Chevy during the Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

Bowyer to run USO "Cheer" paint scheme at Phoenix
The No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet driven by Clint Bowyer will carry a special message during the Sprint Cup Series event this Veterans Day weekend at Phoenix. The design features the message "send Cheer" to encourage fans to send thanks and spread cheer to military families whose loved ones are serving our country.
The paint scheme is part of a partnership between Cheerios and the USO to help support military families by sending "Cheer" postcards from the front of specially marked packages of Cheerios cereal found in stores through November 2011. People can simply cut out the postcard from the box, write a message of thanks on the back, add a stamp, and mail the pre-addressed postcard to the USO. The USO will deliver the postcards to military families at events at USO centers across the nation.
"I can't thank General Mills and the USO enough for their support this weekend at Phoenix," Bowyer said. "It's a really cool paint scheme and I'm excited about driving it. I hope it encourages everyone out there to 'send Cheer' to our nation's military families."
Race fans will also be able to send thanks and encouragement at Phoenix by visiting the "Cheer" display located outside the track throughout the entire race weekend. You can fill out a postcard and have it sent to military families by the USO.

In need of refreshments?
Multiple Grammy Award winning recording artists Los Lobos who reached super-stardom in 1987 with their chart-topping cover of Ritchie Valens La Bamba will perform at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13 at the Budweiser ROLL-Bar main stage prior to the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
The five-piece eclectic ensemble from East Los Angeles includes David Hidalgo, Louie Pérez, Cesar Rosas, and Conrad Lozano and Steve Berlin. The band has been performing and releasing records for nearly four decades sharing the stage with acts such as Bob Dylan, U2 and the Grateful Dead. With their eclectic style that draws from rock, country, folk, R&B, blues and traditional Spanish and Mexican music, the band continues to redefine their sound while maintaining a rich musical tradition. In August 2010, the group released their first album in four years, entitled Tin Can Trust. This year they launched an international tour with stops in Europe and Australia

Plural of opus is opera.
I have a wide variety on my iPod, but opera is one neglected, by choice, class. Granted, you’ve gotta take some with your Wagner, but you’ll never hear some screaming mimi thumpin through the windows of my street ride... unless, maybe, you’re standing in Tork’s driveway when I show up. Even then, I’d only play opera to scare away the trespassing paintballers, and it would appear the Vast Bender Estate is infested with em, so if you see the EagleMobile approaching, just hold yer ears. I guarantee the pain will be temporary.

The most shocking thing about that tread is the fact I was here 5 1/2 years ago...

Im one of the lucky ones.. those who gave all without question are the true American heros and patriots. Id be proud to stand in their shadow come rain or shine.
Amen.
Please pray on this day, and every day, for our Patriot Armed Forces standing in harm's way around the world in defense of our liberty, and for the families awaiting their safe return.

We love you, Tork, and are glad you're still here with us, even when you don't remember the small details
... like where you live and your name and stuff. We were trained to respect our elders. ... and help them find their keys. ... and their cars. ... and home and stuff.

Look for the tall white guy with the Nikon... Do you mean the guy has never shared one of his thousands of photos with us? and speaking of photos why does Fotki keep losing my passwords and then giving me a new one that doesn't work? and do you care?

HEY! I’m “elder” too and no one respects ME!
(He forgot where he lives....AGAIN? heh)
To: tubebender
why does Fotki keep losing my passwords and then giving me a new one that doesn't work? Yah. I had that problem last week. There was an 'email us if you are having a problem' link when I couldn't login, so I emailed, and it was fixed within a half hour, and the gal sent me an email the next morning making sure everything was okay. Fotki's the best! I, on the other hand, don't seem to have as much time as our retired FR professional curmudgeons to download, crop/edit, and post photos. Be careful what you ask for...

There was this young engineer who worked at a big tech company... (I love these kind of stories!)
Anyway, one day the young engineer was walking down the hallway at the corporate office, and when he rounded a corner, he knocked an older gray haired man to the ground. The old guy on the floor demanded of the young man: “Do you know who I am?”
... to which the young engineer replied “Well, no, sir, but if you can remember your address, maybe I can get you a ride home.”

Yessir. I also remember Ronald Reagan flying in to Daytona. Whole different experience, eh?
Brain France will be the death of nascar. Oh, well, eh?
I started seriously watching nascar, the Grand National, as it were, in 78, when I got cable.
Pretty well went in the toilet when they abolished Winston.
NASCAR went vacuous when Dale died.
NASCAR seems to have lost their soul
... and their will to live.
Brain France seems to have the same future in mind for Nascar as Zero has for the US.

I just follow the broken lawn furniture to Grannie’s house and the nice little lady there puts me on the Greyhound bus with my address pinned to my shirt, and I emailed Fotki and told them when you said about them...

Gork, who would have thought the marxist black widow would be grand marshall at a NASCAR race? I hope she gets boo’ed out of Homestead.
