I know all too well.
The mindset is now “Penn State vs. the world.”
Never thought I’d see Penn State be the villains.
Paterno and others broke the law by not reporting known suspicions/information as to child sexual abuse to the police.
It doesn’t matter if Sandusky goes scott free. Though I doubt he will.
The law in PA says otherwise. There is a duty to report these types of incidents to the police or child protective services.
The school can tell people all they want “don’t call the police,” but that doesn’t make their policy legal and it doesn’t insulate the person from charges that they broke the law.
Feel free to go tell those kids to pull up their tent and ride their elephant home.
Yes, as MrShoop, pointed out, apart from the law, there is every moral reason to fire these people immediately.
This is really a lot like when the NFL suspended Michael Vick. Had to be done, first, because it was morally right, but also because the reaction to him was so fierce, there was no way the season could go on as usual.
One of the lessons here SHOULD be “IT’S ONLY A GAME.”
I know that may be hard for the Penn State cult to take in, but it should be one of the greatest life’s lessons they’ll ever have.
I don’t know why these people protected Sandusky, but you can bet at least part of it was to protect the football program, the university because it had the football program, and “the game.”
NONE of that has any worth whatsoever compared to protecting a human being.
Very sad.
The only intelligent thing that has happened during this circus is when the students tipped over the news van.
That event was reported by AP so the odds are 50/50 that the reporting is accurate.
Sad to see trial by and in the media is all to common in this day and time. Check the number of times it happens daily here on the FR threads.
Our daughter was working for a MO state college or university. I do not know what the law here in MO says.
Fine. But police reports, campus or otherwise, mean nothing until they are adjudicated in a court of law with jury and or judge. You do realize you or I could call the cops and swear out a complaint on anyone we want and they would duly note it and move on to their next call. There is absolutely no court in any of this, and yet people have been punished. This is hysteria, not how the system is supposed to work.
You’re welcome!
If they were really intelligent, it would have been the espn van.
However, it was just the Altoona-Johnstown cbs affiliate's van.
So the AP did get that fact right, I guess.
After this, I think it’s clear I’d want to find out if I were working somewhere and the policy was “don’t call the police.”
I’m sure that happens at places besides universities.
It’s a horrible situation.
See my #50. This is a complete media circus. So much so that the university president has been fired before a single witness has taken the stand.
I agree with you 110% .
I am speaking as a NASCAR fan, not as a college basketball or football fan.
A large and growing number of NASCAR fans watch races on ESPN, mute the TV and listen to coverage on Sirius radio.
Would you fire your nanny if you found out she was Casey Anthony, or would you defer to the legal system that acquitted her? If I showed you video of an employee stealing from your store, would you fire them immediately, or would you let them work until after the trial?
So much so that the university president has been fired before a single witness has taken the stand.
Haste makes waste. The lawyers will have a field day with this one.
Joe Paterno was fired by the Penn State board of trustees Wednesday night.
NO insinuation that Joe buggered boys.
Speclative conservative Cain: major buggarie...
1. Were not witnesses deposed and sworn (vs. perjury) by a Grand Jury? Thus these are not un-substantiated.
2. Who is privy to what documentation the board of Trustees and their legal counsel current has in their custody? (i.e legal liability).
Life isn’t an episode of Law & Order. Most legal matters never get to the trial phase. Personnel actions are taken every day based on in-house investigations, affidavits and admissions, without resort to the courts.
Here, many of the asserted facts are admitted by multiple people, even if Sandusky denies them because he’s the one looking at life in prison. The facts alleged are that McQueary walked in on Sandusky raping a 10 year old boy in the locker room shower. He didn’t try to stop Sandusky or call the police. He waited until the next day and reported it to .... Paterno. Who told the Athletic Director. None of them called the police. And
Sandusky went on to another 9 years of access to the showers with children he picked up from his “Second Mile” children’s charity. And from foster care. Who besides Sandusky is denying those facts? And to the
school, they may have admitted much more than you are going to read about in the media.
The law requires an employer to investigate and take appropriate action
without waiting around for the court system. (Remember the Rest. Assoc. internal investigation report that cleared Herman Cain?) The school would
compound its already glaring exposure to civil damages if it continued to
expose young people to school personnel who admit to behaving as irresponsibly as this crew has.
So yes, that IS how it’s done in this country.
