I think that the B10 will be looking to expand to 14 or even 16 schools. That will attract them is a big revenue producer. UCONN has the Bball programs.....not so with football unfortunately. I think that the B10 will look to either remnants of the B12 or even Notre Dame. I think that the league is in the cat bird seat and is what to see how things unfold with expansion. Schools are coming to them not the league going to schools.

I agree.

And the low-level employee who honestly follows the policy, reasonably (key) thinking that someone up the chain calls the police when appropriate, probably has a defense.

It’s not unreasonable for institutions, depending on the nature of the incident, to refer decisions on calling the police to a higher level. But then the police must be called if appropriate or required by law.

And a policy should never be expressed as basically prohibiting a person from taking action, including calling law enforcement, to protect a person from a criminal act or other harm.

It wouldn’t surprise me that big-time college football programs have an explicity or implicit system of trying to “handle” all negative matters internally, even though this could amount to a policy of covering up crime on a systematic basis.

We’ll never know why the DA who was first presented with it did not prosecute. His name was Ray Gricar and he went missing in 2005, and was legally declared dead this past August. Only thing ever found was his laptop in the river, completely destroyed and not salvageable.

This is outrageous. They’ve gotten as bad as OWS in less than a day.

Time to start shooting.

Outrageous that little scum think it’s OK to get violent over firing someone who may have enabled disgusting abuse. If you want to argue his case, fine, but don’t publicly grandstand on something so grim and then get violent to boot.

But it would not suprise me if the B10 will look at what is left of the Big East football conference.

They need to cancel Saturday’s game.

Yes, because they have a GOD who cannot be threatened.

People need to grow up and get serious.

Serious issues like this - abusing young children who are disadvantaged - should be treated with solemnity, not automatic grandstanding VIOLENT “support” for someone who might have been enabling abuse.

But also do not forget, while no doubt college football IS BIG money, college b-ball is NOT that far behind. Just take a look at March Madness and those brackets.

Not on your life!

They’ll never give up their precious football.

Do you know how insane the population around there is for this team? They conflate largely with the insanity of Steeler fandom, and are just as crazy even if they happen to be Eagle fans.

When you have fans (suckers) that ridiculous about priorities supporting you, you aren’t going to give up that gravy train.

I hope the football team refuses to play this weekend. The fact that Paterno did the right thing at the time is obviously being ignored. Oh well it isn’t like he needs the money. Luckily he was the coach for 46 years and I am sure he is paid well so he should be ok for the rest of his life. The guy is not even getting a gold watch for his 46 incredible years at Penn State. That is tragic.

Nevermind this Saturday’s game in Happy Valley, which is guaranteed to be a circus, but when they go on the road....can you imagine the venom that opposing fans are going to have...that’s why if for no other reason, Paterno had to go now.....there is no way as long as he was on the sidelines that they could play the game with a bunch of drunken fans in the stands, ready to give him the “what for.”

They are rioting because they fired a man who harbored a child molester?

That is such a lie. He went to his superiors about hearing a RUMOR about this. Joe never saw the action. Man if people go to police every time people spread a rumor then the police are going to be awfully busy. Of course this once rumor turned out to be true, but most are not.

Penn State is a cult and the football program is their shrine. I will bet a dollar that there are suicides over the loss of JoePa and that the victims of this predator will get death threats for ruining a great season

Exactly what I alluded to in my comments about screwed-up priorities!

It's not their call to make.

Everyone who protected this pedophile should be hung alongside him.

How do we even know that these stories are true? I thought the creeps at Duke were disgusting rapists, but guess what it turned out to be a lie and they did not do this.

This isn’t like Duke lacrosse, where Duke destroyed people based only on the vehemently disputed word of a crazy woman - whom they chose to credit just because she was a minority.

This is exactly like Duke where they are making knee jerk decisions. Joe did the right thing at the time with what was given to him. A grad student went to him about a possible situation and he went to the Athletic Director who went to the school who investigated and found NOTHING to it. How do we know that this is all a lie and the parents are trying to get money from the school.
