Rick Perry swiftly came to the spin room after the end of the GOP debate Wednesday night and directly told reporters that he screwed up on stage.
"I'm glad I had my boots on tonight," Perry said. "I stepped in it out there." Continue Reading
Perry froze up on stage as he attempted to list the three federal departments he planned to cut, naming Education and Commerce but forgetting the Department of Energy.
Said Perry: "I may have forgotten Energy, but I haven't forgotten my conservative principles."
Asked by a reporter if that moment was embarrassing, Perry said: "I stepped in it, man. Yeah, it was embarrassing. Of course it was."

“so Id be surprised if there were Perry supporters on Palin threads bashing her. But I could be wrong.”
On Aug 14 The site owner threaten to zot Perry supporters if they didn’t clean up their act. Most of the Palin supporters “bad behavior” was directed at these Perry supporters causing trouble on Palin threads....something the Perrywinkles have conviently forgot.
A very few former Palin supporters have returned the favor on Perry threads. Yes, there are a few, but less than a small handfull have chosaen to return the favor. Compare those to the regular anti Palin/pro Perry posters that swarmed Palin threads.
At this juncture it appears that Palin is out of this cycle and Perry is busy destroying his own candidacy.......
What is more important, is that we, as Conservatives, do not allow the Dems/Obama/MSM to succeed in their very obvious smear of Herman Cain.......
We need to hang together on this point....or, as the man said “......we will all hang together.”
Yeah, you just watch. Perry's gonna recover that 22% points he lost in the polls, and talk circles around that bunch of posers! He's gonna kick all their butts.....if they, uh...just shut up and give him a few more months to practice...
Aw, nuts...come on home, Rick.
I’m older than I was before, but not as old as I can get. Thankfully I’m at the point where I forget enough of what I’m forgetting that it doesn’t upset me much.
Again, didn’t see the debate but on another thread it claims there was a !43 second stumble with Rick trying to name the three agencies he wants gone? 43 seconds?
Sorry, but one of the primary, requisite skills for a POTUS, is the ability to speak in a way that is intelligent, convincing, and charismatic. World class leaders do this effortlessly. It's why people follow them, and entrust them with the awesome responsibilities of running a nation.
Even those who seek lesser offices must be able to articulate their views with ease and confidence.
The fact that Rick Perry has demonstrated over and over again that he doesn't have the ability to do this (for whatever reason) is a deal breaker for most voters. His performances in these debates (not to mention some of the positions he's taken) have turned off a huge number of those who formerly supported him (as evidenced by his terrible slide in the polls).
Frankly, the man just isn't inspiring confidence in the voters. On the contrary, he's creating a negative impression, which will be almost impossible for him to turn around now.
Do you know the next debate date and format? I don’t.
Just because the man is willing to keep going, and still has the money to do so, doesn't mean that he's still a viable candidate.
He just hasn't caught fire with the voters. On the contrary, he's actually lost at least 22% of the support he came in with. I don't know why it's so hard for some folks to see that he's fading.
The beef is that all i heard about the debate was charges of sex haras against cain and perrys slip. Where’s the beef is my question. the coverage of the debate has not focused on issues when we are in very, very serious times that call for beef
I’m a teacher.
I had to do a class on Mary, and I was preparing for it and it totally slipped out of my head what we call the term for the holy spirit overshadowing Mary.
Could not for the life of me recall it. Sat down did some other stuff, and it came to me, annunciation.
Now I’ve taught this stuff before, but that’s memory for you. You get in the middle of things and that one, great word, just eludes you. It’s probably totally obvious.
It happens. I thought Perry did well, I don’t see how this one slip up is going to cost him. I’m really not sure why people are writing him off, but ok.
No, of course not, but I can guarantee you that Newt wouldn't have trouble stringing simple sentences together in every single debate he's in.
This isn't something new for Perry. He's been stumbling, mumbling, and bumbling since he first got into the race. Sorry, but people are going to judge a candidate on something like that. Looking at his slide in the polls, it's apparent that they've done so already.
I heard it on a live radio broadcast. It was so embarrassing, that I was turning red!
No. I don't even try to keep up with that. I just tune in when I see the threads pop up on the forum.
It happens. I thought Perry did well, I dont see how this one slip up is going to cost him.
What happened tonight isn't what's going to cost him. It's the chain of similar bad debate performances that has piled up into a train wreck of failures for Perry.
Not to mention some of the deal-breaking stances he's taken. It's death by a thousand gaffes.
Threats don't have any impact on me; I have a life.
However, I've seen a few of the "Sarah Squad" get the zot for bad behavior, so they obviously aren't exempt.
Well, let’s look at this realistically. He has six weeks to go before Iowa and New Hampshire.
There was an income earthquake the last few weeks: a ton of people lost their only (reported) income, unemployment insurance.
The next six weeks joe 6-pack and his wife are lost in Thankgiving and Christmas plans, and won’t be paying too much
attention to politics. Good for some candidates who need a break, but even better for one who who knows where and how to swoop at the last minute for the rally.
As a Texan (native or no), surely you know how Perry picks his battles. He wastes not one calorie of energy he doesn’t have to. I will eat my hat and whatever else is demanded of me if Perry doesn’t get out of that brier patch at the time he has the most opportunity.
Like I said, we’ll see. The SRM goes on vacation for the next six weeks. With those hyenas gone, Perry either will wrap it up or drop out. It’s one or the other.
Perry's been in the race since June, and has steadily lost ground the entire time. He's lost 22% off his initial high, which means that those voters walked from him and chose another candidate (the undecideds are a pretty small group at this point).
Perry has to win all those people back, and more, if he wants to be a contender again. So far, I don't see any evidence that he can. Every time he slips on his own tongue, his remaining supporters make excuses for him and say, "watch - he'll do better next time."
Well, that hasn't come to pass. He keeps failing to impress in these debates, and it's killing him.
Hiding out during the holidays isn't going to help his numbers. The other candidates will all be out there getting as much face time as possible, and he'll have to do the same, if he has any hope of regaining any of his lost ground.
Unless he can find some sort of other venue where he shines as bright as the sun, he's on a fool's errand.
“I’ve seen a few of the “Sarah Squad” get the zot for bad behavior.....”
Like who? pissant???? lolololol
OK, but if you’ve been around Texas for long, you know he doesn’t pick battles he don’t think he can win.
He’s not the type to run for POTUS so he can brag about it, and you know it. He’d only do it if the math supported the move.
And he has (pre-America) Ancient Establishment against him, he knows it yet he presses. Texas IS a whole ‘nother country, always has been, and has always used its trade advantages to tell DC how and where to stick it (if you don’t count the ‘re-construction’).
Yeah, to shallow people.
Best comment so far and certainly true.
I was thinking, Energy! because I've heard Perry list it so many times before - Education, EPA, Energy, HHS. And as mentioned earlier, as governor he's been battling these monsters up front and personal here in Texas -- and scoring wins against them.
It was touching and Christian of Perry to take some of that heat off of Herman Cain (Lord knows he needs it).
I wonder, will Rush come to Gov. Perry's defense today about a gaffe put up by Drudge, as Top News of the World, or not. Hmmmmmm???
