STATE COLLEGE -- More than a thousand Penn State students are moving between the campus and downtown, chanting in support of football coach Joe Paterno, whose job has been questioned over his handling of sex-abuse allegations involving a former coach.
Crowds began to gather around 10 p.m. on Beaver Avenue. After police in riot gear told them to move along, the students moved to Old Main. They sang the alma mater, professed their love for Paterno and profanely denounced Sandusky. They pointed toward Penn State president Graham Spanier's still-lit office. Then, after a brief "back to Beaver" chant, the crowd returned to Beaver Avenue.

Absolutely. Our children are lost. Shame on us.
That would be disappeared five years after deciding not to press charges and while in the middle of a couple of major drug investigations.
Occupy Disgrace
Paterno did NOT report it to the campus police.
What you are seeing is simply another product of the Graham Spanier admin.
Just shown, looks peaceful. Many gathering.Saw no police.Looking Action news locaL lIVE.
Joe was not singled out. President Spanier is GONE. VP Schultz is GONE. AD Curley is GONE. Ex-coach Sandusky is GONE.
One coached Penn State now he’s going to State Pen.
My guess is, since there most likely are students under 18, that all professional employees (and maybe the others) are considered mandated reporters, and thus, by state law, are REQUIRED to report suspected abuse.
He failed, in that he did not pursue it.
Braindead. Morally bankrupt. This decision will not be overruled and everyone outside of that state more or less gets it. If they want to riot in favor of someone who suppressed horrific events on that campus and covered for a pediphile then far as I’m concerned they should be able to put their money where their mouths are. volunteer to have their future earnings legally transferred to the families who win the civil suits coming toward Penn state and JoePa.
Wow. Hmm ... Paterno is well loved. Sigh. What a mess.
Too bad this whole thing didn’t blow sky high the first day Paterno learned of it some nine years ago. He should have fought to get Sandusky off PSU property and blown the whistle on him in every sector unceasingly till the guy had NO access to children anywhere. His having done anything else, sadly, implicates him as somehow having condoned it or having looked the other way.
What
a
mess
.
It’s a little late, but at least PSU is sending a clear message (finally) that victimization of innocent children is wrong and they will have no part of it.
Seriously, this should have happened nine or more years ago.
Never thought I’d see the day Paterno got fired. He has got to have been one of the most loved college football coaches ever.
Football is not just a matter of honor and integrity: it’s much more important than that.
In case you missed it 3 people aside from Paterno are already gone including the President who was fired tonight along with Joe. I expect the former grad student and now offensive coach will be joining them and there may be more. These are the names known now. Joe is hardly the only one being singled out, he’s just the most high profile. Well, other then Sandusky who everyone knows now.
Don’t defend him. I’m not in the mood. If a coach at Ohio can be fired for covering for students who sold their own memorbilia then damn well a coach with the power of Paterno informed of Sandusky’s activities years ago can be and should be fired. Best thing he can do is pull his head out of his....and realize it’s not about his university or football program. It’s about those kids. If he wants to make amends then spend that time he was in press boxes and sidelines on working to help prevent child abuse.
He helped cover up the pervert's activities some twelve years ago.
My wife used to work for a well known university. The football coach was paid more than the president. Paterno only reported this to the AD. Paterno is the power at Penn State U State Pen U. He punted.
sending a message or trying to cover their bare a$$??
Well said. Worth repeating.
“A man of honor and integrity does not simply report the abuse of a child. A man of honor and integrity puts the safety and welfare of children above his career, football program, and school.
“Hope that makes sense..... this story is so disgusting on so many levels it is unimaginable. Failure to report the abuse of children is horrible. Not reporting it when you know the abuser continues to have access to vulnerable children is unforgiveable.”
Clearly you are clueless. Stop posting and save yourself the embarrassment.
Sheesh...go home students and light a bong. That would be better than what you're doing now.
I respectfully disagree (althoughI understand where you are coming from). This is a disgusting crime and coverup but this sort of thing does happen in our society and life goes on. Those kids should not miss one hour of school IMO. They are there for an education. And based on the support for this coverup coach it doesn’t sound like these kids are traumatized about the crime and victims but worried about some stupid coach.
