Penn State trustees fire football coach Joe Paterno and PSU president Spanier

Penn State trustees fired football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier (SPAN-yer) amid the growing furor over how the school handled sex abuse allegations against an assistant coach.

The massive shakeup Wednesday night came hours after Paterno announced that he planned to retire at the end of his 46th season.

But the outcry following the arrest of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky on molestation charges proved too much for the board to ignore.

One key question has been why Paterno and other top school officials didn't go to police in 2002 after being told a graduate assistant saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in a school shower...

I thought according to liberal mantra being homo was o.k. and not to be frowned upon. The problem as I see it is that Joe didn’t step in after witnessing an acceptable liberal-social act.

Latest argument I heard was that this has nothing to do with homosexuality but that of pedaphelia. Is this not Penn State? Hmmm. Pedephelia, eh?

It NEVER ceases to amaze me to the degree that leftists are willing to move the goal-post (and how often they’re wanton to do that with respect to their own intersts).

The liberal-socialist leftists are running Joe out on the rails for something else.

Paterno a scapegoat? Seriously? OK, let's review this again, shall we?

A grad assistant goes by the locker room on a Friday night to drop off some shoes. When he gets there, he notices that the lights are on in the shower room and that the shower is running. Over the sound of the shower, he hears a rhythmic slapping noise as if sexual activity is occurring. Note that he heard this from outside the shower room over the sound of a running shower.

He steps in the shower room and sees a naked Sandusky pounding away on a ten-year-old child from behind. The child is bent over with both hands against the wall as Sandusky continues to make that slap slap slapping sound as his groin beats against the child's buttocks.

The graduate assistant visits Paterno at his home the following morning and recounts to him exactly what he had seen and heard. He was quite explicit in letting Paterno know that Sandusky was anally raping that boy.

So what does Paterno do? He sits on it for 24 hours. The next day, he calls the AD and gives him a different account of what occurred than the one he received from the graduate assistant.

Scapegoat? Not in a million years. Paterno should spend his remaining years in prison. Now explain that one to your four kids and ask them if they think Paterno is a scapegoat.

I read almost all of it. I was sick to my stomach, and then enraged.

I have a son who is 20 now. The one most graphic account of an assault (Victim #2, I think) - was on a child the same age as my son - he is 20 now. I wonder what his life is like now. I wonder if he is even alive.

I wonder why that GA McSomethingorother did not DO ANYTHING to stop what was going on when he saw it right in front of him and even made eye contact with both. That makes me furious and yes, Joe Paterno should not have a job. Shame on him. Shame on all of them.

That just makes my blood boil. And there is part of me that is not surprised that an established institution has no problem making little problems disappear. Except this one did not go away. How awful. I am glad he is finally stopped. Those poor boys and young men. And their families.

It sickens me to think that one in the teaching profession is on FR defending these monsters. You indecent people certainly stick together.

You need to get up to speed on this topic. Sandusky has been indicted. That’s how the media found out about the grand jury investigation and report and then reported about it. That’s why folks are in uproar over Paterno’s lack of action when a boy was raped in his football team’s showers. An honorable man would not have been able to sleep at night knowing a child rapist was on the loose in his locker room.

The players aren’t to blame for any of this. They’ve been in the program for their college years. Their season is going to suffer for this by no fault of their own. There are many victims in this.

That womens’ basketball coach was also vilified by the same media taking down Paterno.

Oh, it was the media....see, I thought it was the fact that Paterno gave a child raper a pass....thanks for clearing that up.

Yep. And as long as the focus is kept on Paterno, they will succeed.

“There are many victims in this.”

YES, THERE ARE...
This is bigger than just Paterno. He’s just one of the many enablers here.

This is a CULTURE that went in to CYA mode to cover-up homosexual child abuse, while at the same time celebrating the homosexual lifestyle, and firing anybody who spoke out against it.

People feared for their jobs and livelyhoods if they dared speak out for the children.

And you wonder WHY people are angry?

And you don't think that the reporter who wrote the article didn't focus on Sandusky because (I know this is a new thought for you) he has already been arrested and charged and is awaiting his trial by the justice system...whereas Paterno and Spanier were still running a major institution as if they had done nothing wrong?

In the lands of the Commonwealth that's actually normal. Details of accusations can be published about anyone (subject to the laws of libel). However, once they are arrested, it becomes sub judice, and public comment must cease to avoid influencing any possible jurors.

Paterno knew things...Sandusky was there for over 30 years. And....What about Sandusky's wife? Where was she when her husband was in the basement or on overnights fondling boys or grooming them during family outings? Ugh....makes my stomch hurt to think about it....

I read something interesting on a thread from another site.....a person who is in the Penn State community said that the mother of one of the Sandusky victims back in the 90s was given a black SUV (like a Navigator or Expedition) to keep her mouth shut about Sandusky fondling her son. Now....who forked over the money for that....and who all knew about it since obviously rumors got around.....

Quite true. In Canada they call it "A ban on publication." During the trials of the infamous Paul Bernardo and his wife Karla Homolka, newspapers and magazines from Detroit and Buffalo were seized at border crossings into Ontario to prevent news from being disseminated. At the same time, US broadcasters were not allowed entry into Canada to cover the trial.

Are you suggesting that paying college football players is the equivalent to bestiality?

That's the only proper word for the matter given the fact it IS college and not intra-mural.

I'm certain that given suffient Jesuit intellect bestiality could be argued as being too coarse and that merely homosexuality instead should apply.

In the old days people outright fell upon swords; they only opened their veins when asked (or when suicide would favor their family). Failing all that: their survivors lost any assets they had due to edict. It's my guess that we might've fallen at least that far.

Oh please. I know the case. You can stop the condescension and actually try to have a discussion.

McQuery, the 28 yr old former football player and grad assistant witnesses Sandusky anally raping a 10 old boy and doesn’t intervene. He then waits until the next day to tell Paterno, and what he EXACTLY tells Paterno isn’t known even today.

Paterno reports it to his supervisor per law.

My four kids know the story. Fortunately, they don’t listen to people like you so all’s good here. The two in college and the one in 10th and the one in 8th grade know what the liberal media is all about. They know what is happening to our country.
