Penn State trustees fired football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier (SPAN-yer) amid the growing furor over how the school handled sex abuse allegations against an assistant coach.
The massive shakeup Wednesday night came hours after Paterno announced that he planned to retire at the end of his 46th season.
But the outcry following the arrest of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky on molestation charges proved too much for the board to ignore.
One key question has been why Paterno and other top school officials didn't go to police in 2002 after being told a graduate assistant saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in a school shower...

Was it the same DA?
Lol!
Is that you, Joe?
You are a low life piece of trash for defending a man and a school who stood by and did NOTHING while innocent boys were being raped over several years. You’re almost as vile as Sandusky.
Sandusky should be in prison with extra shower privileges and no rope for his soap.
And I would burn my #15 jersey!
The graduate assistant went to his office and called his
father, reporting to him what he
had seen. His father told the graduate assistant to leave the building and come to his home. The graduate assistant and his father decided that the graduate assistant had to report what
he had seen to Coach Joe Paterno ("Paterno"), head football coach of Penn State.
The next morning, a Saturday, the graduate assistant telephoned Paterno and went to Paterno's home, where he reported what he had seen. Joseph V. Paterno testified to receiving the graduate assistant's report at his home on a Saturday morning. Paterno testified that the graduate assistant was very upset. Paterno called Tim Curley ("Curley"), Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his home the very next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy.

The grand jury report is not hard to find. Try google.
Just don’t eat anything before reading it.
FINALLY. I’m tired of hearing of Joe Pa. Joe Pa couldn’t have enabled all this on his own for over a decade. The entire system was looking the other way. Take them all down.
Tebow would help you burn it.
Paterno and Mike McQueary may be "legally" right, but both were morally wrong in this, as was the AD and all those in the chain of command.
It's time to clean house. Paterno is fired, so should McQueary. They all majorly effed up and took the easy way out. McQueary witnessed Sandusky in the shower raping a boy. McQueary tells Paterno. Paterno tells the AD. Nothing else happens. That's it.
Clean house.
Well, young persons, here's a story about Jerry Sandusky and what he has accomplished...
The common thread is exposing children to perversion, whether in the classroom, presented as tolerance and relativism or in the *ahem* "lab" of a school shower. Both are sickening.

God help us.
I'm a female, and when I was in 8th grade in 1960, I became friends with a female student, also in 8th grade. We began chumming around. One day she told me a secret. She said that her step-father was making her watch porno movies, then making her dress-up, and perform the sex scenes in the movies with him. She told me that one time after he made her give him a BJ, she had saved his sperm in a jar. She asked me not to say anything to anyone about it. I was shocked, and had a hard time getting it out of my head. My conscience bothered me terribly, and little time went by before I went to the girl's guidance counselor. Back then, that's all they had. I told her what my friend had told me, then when I had the chance, I told my friend what I had done and why. She asked me what I thought would happen now, and I told her I hoped they would lock her step-father up. As it turned out, my friend was removed from her home and put in foster care. Her mother didn't believe the charges, and supported her husband. There was a younger brother in the household as well. I only spoke to my friend one other time while she was in foster care, and we lost contact.
After graduation I went to work for the county's child welfare department as a clerk. When I had the chance, I went in the old files and found her record, read the transcripts of interviews she'd had with her social worker. From what I recall, the step-father was charged, admitted to it, and was placed on probation. My friends life was ruined by a pervert. He basically walks off scott-free, and she's the one removed from the home, and shunned by her mother. I often wonder how the rest of her life has gone, and hope that she was able to find some happiness.
Regardless of his physical stature, Mc-Queer-y is a very small man.

Oh, I understand. And JoePa should have been fired along with a lot of others. And some time should be served.
But what I’m saying is the non action of JoePa will hurt the team he’s loved for 46 years.
About damn time.
Yes it will.
