While Herman Cain struggles to defend himself against charges of sexual harassment over a decade ago, he might take some solace in knowing the great actor and film director Clint Eastwood likes him best amongst the Republican presidential candidates.
That was only one of the surprises published by the Los Angeles Times in an article about the Oscar-winning director Monday:
When it comes to the current crop of Republican presidential candidates, if Eastwood is enthusiastic about anyone, its Herman Cain. I love Cains story, he says. Hes a guy who came from nowhere and did well, obviously against heavy odds. Hes a doer and a straight-talker, which I dont see enough of from either party.
Hes not as bullish on Mitt Romney. As a film icon, Eastwood has been fiercely protective of his image, but hes not especially enamored by that attitude in a politician. When Eastwood was in Massachusetts in 2002, filming Mystic River, Romney was running for governor there. I saw a lot of him and you have to admit he looks like a president, Eastwood recalled with a tone that youd have to describe as being slyly sarcastic. I mean, if you were casting a movie where you needed someone to play president, youd definitely pick him.

Made. My. Day.
He’s no right-winger, but he claims to have never voted for a Democrat for President.
He’s a fiscal conservative, social liberal.
The celebrity who surprised us was Gene Simmons (from KISS) who was interviewed on Fox And Friends today. He’s very smart and has some good ideas. Shows that anyone can change his core beliefs, considering where he started. (Impressive that the guy speaks eight languages fluently.)
I agree with Eastwood.
Clint is right. However, looking Presidential is the ONLY thing in Mitt's favor.
There was a time WHEN and there remain voters WHO cast their ballot based strictly on THIS kind of ‘credential’, such as it is. We won't talk about the old days or the kinds of voters who remain so laughably gullible in their voting habits. We know who they are.
In a healthy economy,in peace time, without DAILY challenges to Constitution or to our very sovereign territory, etc. Americans could afford and possibly be forgiven selecting an ‘8x10 glossy’ kind of guy for the WH. NOT NOW!! And with any luck, we won't retain or return TO that kind of mentality in electing Presidents.
[ Hes a fiscal conservative, social liberal. ]
Which is amazing that he is going to get on the Cain train despite all the social issues he no doubt disagrees with Cain on. Goes to show how badly Bummer has screwed up the economy.
“Hes a fiscal conservative, social liberal”.
...I had an a-hole liberal in my office tell me that about 3 years ago. I told him “that’s impossible”. I’d like to know how Clint would explain it.
I’m not an a-hole liberal so I’ll explain it. He’s a libertarian.
Just ask them how they’re going to deal with the consequences of people being socially liberal (ie, irresponsible), without being fiscally liberal and paying for the consequences of their behavior.
so did your post! Clever!
...The fact that Eastwood is not doctrinaire on the issues makes him a person that doesn't need a dem or repub to tell him how to think. More folks need to think for themselves rather than be led by the ring in their bovine noses.
I’m reasonably certain Clint identifies himself, at least socially, as a Libertarian:

Social liberal and fiscal conservative are diametrically opposed. Social policies drive the budget and liberal social policies are very expensive.
Plus he’s had his own experience with whacked-out blondes.
Sondra Locke took him to the cleaners.
I never understood the match up. She was no looker. Seemed a personality sink hole. It never made any sense. But...
