Russia will not support new, tougher sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, Interfax news agency quoted a senior Russian diplomat as saying on Wednesday.
"Any additional sanctions against Iran will be seen in the international community as an instrument for regime change in Iran. That approach is unacceptable to us, and the Russian side does not intend to consider such proposals," Interfax quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov as saying.

Doesn't look like there are going to be any new UN sanctions against Iran unless someone can convince Russia/China to abstain from a vote. Question is will Israel view additional non-UN bilateral sanctions as enough?

Russia doesn't want sanctions... Russia wants military action; that way oil goes to $200 a barrel and they can rebuild Iran's military and infrastructure...

The Russians know the only way to live with Iran is to destroy the capability and the Mullahs. War is the answer.

IMHO, Since Obama is pulling all US troops out of Iraq (major failure, read Krauthammer's article), an Israeli strike on Iran is a forgone conclusion. The two countries in the Mideast battling Shia influence is Saudi Arabia and Israel. They understand what King Huessin called the Iran's Shia crescent. If Iran has a nuke and the US is not in IRAQ, then they are unstoppable to begin influencing/controlling the SHIA in Iraq. Saudi Arabia will then develope a nuclear bomb to keep Iran out of its Shia population.
Since Obama blew it with the Iranian green spring, the US only option is a strike. We also must influence a Sunni uprising in Syria that is hostile to the Shia Iran. It does not matter if the new government sets up Sharia Law, but it must be anti Iran. Then Saudi, US and Israel can get the Iranians out of Lebanon.

What Moscow doesn't realize is that their refusal to go with new 'sanctions' (as worthless as such sanctions would be anyway), means that Israel will be faced with two options:
a.) capitulation and surrender to Iranian demands.
OR
b.) premptive military strike on Iran, possibly nuclear.
And I'm all for nuking those arrogant little Persian pricks from the face of the Earth.

If there is a nuclear exchange in the Middle East, not only would Russia's oil be worth a whole lot more but the nuclear fallout might take out most of the pesky Muslims in her Southern states.
Not to mention there are a lot of Russians who were disappointed that Hitler didn't finish off the Jews—they certainly won't cry over an irradiated Israel.

It will also rebuild our military and defense infrastructure by triggering a bout of Obama Sudden Retirement Syndrome in 2012.

So, negotiations with Russia begin, and the proposed sanctions are watered down to the point where they don't have any teeth. Then they are passed with much fanfare. In Iran, nothing much changes. However, the new sanctions are enough to make it politically impossible for Israel to launch an attack, which is what sanctions are really meant to do.

Obama delivered a speech the other day boasting about how his policy of containment against Iran has been the most successful of any administration. He specifically mentioned how he was able to get Russia and China on board. At the time, I was thinking of how Russia had built their reactor and how China was selling them the missiles they will use to launch their warheads. Truth simply does not exist in Obama’s mind.
