When Herman Cain held the long-awaited news conference late Tuesday afternoon to tackle allegations that he sexually harassed four women, a smooth-talking Southern attorney was the first person to step to the microphone.
Cains lawyer is L. Lin Wood, a well-known Atlanta-based trial attorney who has carved out a successful career representing the high-profile and falsely accused, often seeking eye-popping damages for those he believes have been libeled or slandered in the press.
Former CBS news anchor Dan Rather once called Wood the attorney for the damned.
When asked why he had chosen to represent Cain, Wood cited the media circus.
I have spent many years representing clients who have seen their reputations and lives destroyed by false accusations in the media, Wood wrote in an e-mail message to The Post Tuesday evening. I believe that Herman Cain has been unfairly put on trial in the court of public opinion based on reports from unknown or anonymous sources, rumor, speculation and inherently improbable statements by the most recent accuser.
With Woods hiring, Cain has a powerful ally on his side. A partner with Wood Hernacki & Evans LLC, Wood has a three-decade-long career prosecuting, and defending, celebrity clients, sometimes winning mega-settlements on their behalf. He is a fierce advocate....

With Lin Wood I doubt there will be any polygraph.
He’s an excellent attorney. Cain couldn’t have sought better help to steady his ship amid the controversy that threatened to push it off to a dangerous political sandbar. You can see Cain picks superbly qualified people.
I’m convinced he would do the same as President.
Good to see Cain this BS.
Quoting Dan “Fake, but accurate” Rather?! That’s rich.
Lets hope this dies down soon. I am sure the media is digging up dirt on their next victim. NOW, Cain can refer all questions to his atty and we can move on with the election.
You can?
Ping!
Who is that a photo of?
What were the charges?
I was very impressed with the lawyer’s opening statement(s).
Actually he was so good, I was worried Cain might look pale in comparison. But my worries vanished with the powerful presser by Cain. Cain exceeded expectations. He looked presidential!
What was the charge and was he convicted?
Saw this on wiki. Lin has represented and won large settlements for some high profile clients. He is the medias worst nightmare...The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that “Wood has 28 years of experience as a trial lawyer focusing on civil litigation, representing individuals and corporations as plaintiffs and defendants in tort and business cases involving claims of significant damage. He also has extensive experience in First Amendment litigation and management of the media in high-profile cases. He was the lead civil attorney for Richard Jewell related to reporting about Jewell in connection with the 1996 bombing of Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta; the attorney for John and Patsy Ramsey and their son in matters relating to the 1996 murder of JonBenét Ramsey in Boulder, Colo.; the attorney for former U. S. Congressman Gary Condit over the May 2001 abduction and murder of Chandra Levy in Washington; co-counsel in the civil action in Colorado against NBA star Kobe Bryant; lead counsel for MedQuest Associates Inc. and J.P. Morgan Partners LLC in a class action in Atlanta dealing with health-care issues; and lead counsel for AirTran in defamation litigation against the Cleveland, Ohio, newspaper The Plain Dealer.” [15]
Dary Matera described Wood’s successes in the Richard Jewell case: “Richard Jewell hired himself some crack libel attorneys, and they’ve been hammering the media ever since. So far, Atlanta lawyers L. Lin Wood and Wayne Grant have torched NBC, CNN, a community college where Jewell once worked, and other media outlets for more than $2 million and counting. And that doesn’t include the undisclosed “six figure” fee they secured for the movie story. The biggest lawsuits - against the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and some other major media outlets - are still pending.” [16]
A 2008 book by Jim Fisher described Wood’s role in the Ramsey case, which led to the couple’s exoneration: “In 1999, after absorbing an enormous amount of abuse from the media, the Ramseys went on the offensive. They hired a more aggressive attorney, L. Lin Wood, and published a book, The Death of Innocence: JonBenét’s Parents Tell Their Story.” [17]
The Los Angeles Times described Wood’s role in the Kobe Bryant case: “The woman allegedly raped by Kobe Bryant has hired renowned attorney L. Lin Wood, a libel specialist who has represented such clients as the family of JonBenet Ramsey, former Rep. Gary Condit and Richard Jewell in lawsuits against the media.” [18]
“Block has been accused of voter suppression and was banned from running Wisconsin political campaigns for three years to settle accusations he coordinated a judge’s re-election campaign with a special interest group.”
Can’t visit Fox at this moment.
Was he convicted? Allegations are one thing, but a conviction is another.
He is guilty of kicking the crap out of the union/democrat machine in Wisconsin...and outing them on voter fraud..
Wonder what Allred is thinking/doing now. I know I’m smiling! And has anyone seen or heard from Joe McGinniss lately?
He agreed to pay a $15,000 fine and stay out of politics for three years in lieu of conviction. I believe the mug shot may be from one of his DUIs.
